paddle shift response time (compared to the center stick)
Hello,
Didn't (quite) see a discussion about this, closest that comes to is this thread, Using the gear lever to shift manually useless? Took this long to get past the break-in mileage of 1,200 and tried out the Sport Plus this morning during commute. The quickness of the car, everyone basically touched on that, car's fast. As for the paddle shift speed/response, noticed that quick/short blip/tap on the paddles does not seem to cause gear to change but rather perhaps a second of depressing and letting go will cause gear selection. How are other's gear change response from using paddles to shift, like? The center stick, +/- gear change seem "instantaneous" (or at least responsive). Perhaps the paddle shifting gear change speed is supposed to have "slight" lag (???), then again i'm not looking for F1 speed gear change speeds. But i don't know what the normal should look like (coming from someone that only been driving 6MT for years). Thanks much. |

I’ve being trying to decide if it’s slow(er) or just me not use to how this transmission is set up, but it feels quite different to my paddle shifts in the 330d.
Now it might be different (diesel v petrol) but I’m not knowledgeable enough to know if that would be the case or I’m imagining it.

For me the stick and paddles both shift equally fast, occasionally if the car is "not expecting" a gear change there will be a marginal lag between when the display changes to when the actual shift occurs, but this occurs on all Bmws and as far as my car is concerned, the behavior is the same whether you click the shifter or the paddle. If the paddles perform consistently slower than the stick there might be an issue.....
On my F25, right before I sold the car, it would reverse the direction of the paddles for a few minutes then go back to normal at random... ie upshift actually cause the gear to drop and vice versa, I'll see if I can find a video |

I use the paddles to blip down 2 gears and nail it to pass.. but if I'm shifting, I prefer the stick. Maybe I'm just old. ;-)

I give up on the X3 paddles (for now).
The sport plus mode with staying in auto, seems exciting enough. I don't think i'm built for paddles. Agreed, i'm the old school, or is that a pre-school, for preferring the 6MT. Seems (subjective of course) more natural, along with doing rev matching. |

I have no issues with paddle shifting on my m40i, up and downs are as quick as each other, and have not noticed any lag.
