Costco Tire Center

A Costco in Phoenix just refused to put the AS4's on my 2022 X4MC because they are y not (y) rated. Their computer only shows the Michelin 4S for the X4MC so that's the only tire they would put on the car.

Anyone else have issues with Costco saying they will only install the 4S?

No issues in Clifton NJ. Swapped out from PS4s to AS4s last week. They did an excellent job on my M892s with no damage. Custom ordered tires in person with Costco rep.

Did you order yours AS4s from them?

No I tired in person and they said no. I checked on line and the only tires they show are the 4S.

I guess I'll try another Costco or TireRack / Discount Tire.

Find a local shop not a chain.

Try a different Costco. In the PNW Costco Seattle wouldn't order or install the AS4s but Tukwila Costco did…only like 15-20 minutes apart. I called ahead to make sure they would order and get the name of the person you talk to.

Not really related but I once had a Costco tell me they wouldn’t sell/install rear tires only, they would only sell a full set. I tried to explain that with a staggered set up, you can go through rears more than fronts. Even though Discount Tire will happily sell rears only, Costco told me they were prohibited from doing so lol, liability or something. This was several years ago so maybe that policy has changed.

Discount Tire told me the same thing when I made a mistake ordering winter tires. I had ordered 2 tires with a lower load rating.

No problems here in NJ Costco. I lost a tire to sidewall damage from winter potholes each winter. Ordered 2 new and they put those in rear. The damaged one is prorated warranty cash back from Costco and other old one becomes a spare or ends up on.Craigslist/car forum. Of course you have to stay within tire wear tolerance of AWD by the car manufacturer so you don't mess up the sports diff by having really worn out 2 old and 2 new tires with big tire wear différence. Audi was up to 4/32s. I think Subarus are up to 2/32s. Curious what it is for our X3Ms

What tires did you get?

According to TireRack The Michelin PSAS4s are Y rated.

If your tires truly are not Y rated, I'm assuming it's a liability thing.

I contacted the tire representative at Costco San Diego District office that oversees, CA, NV and AZ. He contacted my local Costco and they ordered the AS4 tires today. They also honored the Michelin discount that expired last week. Just had to get to the right person.
