Ugh...did I get scammed? (Long Island BMW Driving Event)
I'm embarrassed, and worried, I may have fallen victim to an email scam.
I received an email with a BMW driving event (electric vehicles) with a link to register. I have done one before and it looked legit so uploaded a picture of my license (which I did for the M Track Day one previously). All the links on the site were to bmwusa.com and did not notice anything out of the ordinary (misspellings, etc.). I'm usually pretty good about avoiding scams but they may have got me on this one. I was waitlisted for the event this past Sunday (5/22/22) and didn't hear back. So I called BMW and they said they own "events<DOT>bmw" not "eventsbmw (no dot)". I forwarded the email to them and they said they would investigate. Here is the site linked in the email I received which said registration is closed as the event has passed (very thorough if this was a scam!): https://ixi4electrifytourtristateny.eventsbmw.com/ Did anyone else get this email? Can anyone confirm if this is/is not a scam? Appreciate the help! |

(I think ) You indeed got scammed, that is a redirect website and NOT owned by BMW under whois check. Do a credit watch immediately for notification of things opened in your name.
https://ixi4electrifytourtristateny.eventsbmw.com/ (not owned) Someone else confirm... |

I got the same email (for DC event).
It originated from bmwusa@msg.bmwusa.com I received an email from them when I first bought the car, for the new owners track drive credit. I'm leaning towards it is not a scam.

Thanks guys.
I have had my credit cards hacked (and identity used) previously so I have a lock on my account which requires extra steps to open a credit card - so much so I kept on getting denied for a Costco card until I figured out how to to verify. I found this on the FB page (hopefully not also a scam!) for the Roosevelt Field Mall - if a scam, this is a good one! I do not use FB so not sure if this is legit or not but certainly a lot of effort to forge: |

I'm leaning towards not a scam. Although the links up top do not work, it currently says registration is now closed.

I looked in my email and confirmed the bmwusa@msg.bmwusa.com is the email where received a bunch of other emails including the M track event. I am thinking this was not a scam as well (phew!). Though I will be more careful in the future. Sort of bummed I missed this (would love to see if any members attended to confirm it was a real event) as I have yet to drive an all electric vehicle so was curious. |

I went to that event (in nj) so I don’t think it’s a scam

Thrilling. I was skeptical with the lack of sound and that it wouldn’t be visceral. And it wasn’t. But damn you ride a wave of torque which is second to none and it hits instantly. They seem to handle well for such a heavy car but I think the course is tailored to accentuate the positives and minimize the negatives. Oh and you should get an email from BMW a few days later for $1000 off an in stock car (of course there’s so few cars on the ground). So I’m not trading in my M just yet for electric but I’m more optimistic when the choices dwindle to electric only.

I love ICE engines, but the instant torque of an electric is appealing. Hopefully they will come a long way before we have no choice. |

I’ve seen some I4M50 reviews on you tube (Edmunds maybe) where the tester says power is pulled when the wheel is turned, as if to protect you from a wallop of 500+lb/ft of torque when you’re cornering. I didn’t notice but I’d be curious if you feel that sensation

Yeah definitely go. Laugh at how grotesque the iX is, and drive the wheels off the M50. They should still have the city drives so,if you’re lucky you can grab an X3/4M and do things you wouldn’t do to yours.
