Pretty good! Best I've got on a 100% freeway-driven road trip was 29mpg.

I have done a 2400 round trip in my '18 M40i, 20" wheels. Average speed 75mph (straight up I35 from TX to MN). Averaged 28mpg for the entire trip. Never trust that trip computer though, it said I averaged 33mpg, figure it out yourself, the computer is very optimistic.

OK so today I had to drive from one side of PA to the other. I kept it in standard sport the entire way, and did not baby it. There were excessive speeds and..., assertive driving..., and she landed at 24mpg!

I have to say I'm impressed with the M40i's ability to put it down when needed, but still be a great road trip car and commuter. When in sport+, it drops quickly to the mid teens.

This is better mileage than my turbo outback, probably because to keep it at highway speed it basically had to be 50% or more throttle.

I have gotten 29.5 on 2hr trip to Duluth.. my best - 16yr daughter actually driving.

I spend most time in Eco Ind mode, just keeping the good MPG.. going into Adaptive or Sport as conditions and mood demands. My city / Hwy is typically close to 23 mpg combined.

Drive like a Prius.. yeah, yeah. Love the fact I can good good MPG while also pounding out 4s 0-60 (equipped with JB4 - map 2)

Yes, UK mpg.

39 on the return trip to give a 40mpg average

Speed was around 70mph where clear and in line with the traffic flow, when not.

Very surprised it was better than I ever achieved on my previous G31 540i

Your number is incredible, I never reached higher than 26 I believe, even with freeway driving.

Incredible numbers. Wonder how much of a bump the 2022 model would be over this in terms of efficiency.

I did a trip from Birmingham to London and averaged 40mpg in my M40i.
Really impressed tbh, even when driving around locally the fuel consumption is excellent

I am a little untrusting of the computer when it comes to keeping track of my MPG. I've been using Fuelly now for a long, long time to keep track of my vehicles. They take the data, and aggregate it with other drivers as well, so it's nice to see the comparison between my MPG and others.

They also automatically convert between UK MPG, US, Km/L, etc, so you see the data in a manner that makes sense for where you live.

Pretty cool actually. =)

Here's their X3 M40i page: https://www.fuelly.com/car/bmw/x3/20...model_id=75522

Interesting, how come you could break 30 with M40i. My best is 24ish and I'm driving like a grandma to reach this number.

I got bored sitting in traffic, so I decided to do Eco Pro for one tank of gas. Was quite surprised how long I would have been idling in traffic. Also been coasting for 143/550 Km
This was just city driving, 10.1 l/100 km
Not bad.
