The ACC sensor down in the lower front opening has a heated element in it to melt snow/ice. That shouldn't become obstructed, but who knows.
I'm sure the all unknowing BMW Genius wouldn't have a clue.

The problem with placing those aftermarket screens in the vents is that it restricts the amount of air that can come out of them.

Theoretically, shouldn't soft windshield be less prone to crack from pebbles?

I'd been thinking the same, it sounds like being harder making it more brittle.

Maybe it's more that it's thin glass?

Already had 2 chips in 8000 Km....

According to 'the specialist' it's due to to the position of the window and sheer bad luck...

Happy to report that signing out and back in again did the trick - car now recognises my key fob and doesn’t ask me to select profile.

You can press and hold the radio button, it turns the car off.
I found that once the car is off, make sure your foot is off the brake pedal before opening the door. So far, using this method, it has always turned off when opening the door.

I've tried this multiple times with no luck. However, if I do this and also open the passenger door too everything shuts off.

This works every time unless there is a passenger in the front seat that gets out after you do. In that case, though, it turns off when the passenger opens their door.

Got our X3 on New Years Eve so only a few days and still getting used to it. It’s my wife’s car (I don’t drive) so these are her irritants:

- digital speedo reverting from mph to kph. Widely discussed elsewhere here but it is still v annoying. I tried creating a shortcut on the function buttons so it would be a one-press work around to make it display mph. No joy. Grrrr....

- passenger wing mirror auto dipping when reverse is selected. Nice - and other cars we’ve had have done that - but it pivots so much that she can’t see anything but the ground, which makes it impossible to park in a space in between two other cars in a normal car park/lot. Only solution seems to be to disable the dipping. Fair enough but if our Merc GLC could manage to get the balance right why not the X3? Shame you can’t adjust in iDrive.

You can change where it dips to. Just change the position while in reverse and it will remember it.

Same here. I have so many windshield chips, and the bumper/hood are perfect.

Can you elaborate? Manually adjust the mirror or how?

While the car is in Reverse and the mirror is dipped, use the normal mirror adjustment switch to move the dipped mirror to where you would like it to be. The car will then remember that mirror position the next time you reverse.

Configuring a new x3 so on the basis of your collective experience a few questions

1. I live in a city with continuous potholes, and high risk of flats, was going to get 18 inch run flat tires. Would you get a space saver spare are or not? Doesn’t sound like it takes up trunk space, does it?

2. If you go wireless charging, is this good or any issues?

3. Would you recommend the sound dampening acoustic glass?

4. Finally, driving assistance versus driving assistance plus? If you have one or the other do you like? I don’t use cruise control so figure the plus wouldn’t help....

Not the best place to post your questions, but amyway:
1. re trunk space: in X3 it does, X4 doesn't
2. some users reported that the phone is sliding on the pad. Maybe depending 9n your drive style or phone case. Also slow charging speeds were reported.
3. yes, no brainer
4. we wanted as much safety systems as possible, but next I'd go with DA. That said, I'm happy with DAP(plus). Be sure to know, what the packages contains before deciding what you want.

Lots of useful info here on the forum, with it to spend some time searching and reading. Good luck!

Coincidentally I tried this earlier today and couldn’t get it to work. Seeing this post I went to try it again. The thing is, if you move the adjust switch to passenger side, the mirror doesn’t dip, and if you move it to drivers side the passenger mirror dips but the adjuster adjusts the drivers mirror, so I’m lost?

I haven't tried it on my G02, but that's how it's worked for a few generations now. I'll check my car and get back to you.
