Hi to all, Wife recently purchased a used 2018 X3 - 30i... it came with 1 regular FOB key and Display key, (Display key is DEAD, screen is cracked, even after leaving it charged over night still has no sign of life- maybe fell in water) Dealer promised to replace it. I argued to have both replaced (Display Key and missing FOB) but was unsuccessful, So had them replace the display key. What's my best option to purchase the other FOB key, I find display key big and bulky and I can't even attach it to my key chain without having to buy an additional holder.
I'm not planning to spend another $500.00 plus tax and plus programming fees.

Good luck!....from what I've read, some have needed to have the whole car's locking system re-worked, while others have had a new FOB created/coded. Seems like the dealer might be the only source AND it's EXPENSIVE.

Too late now but it's something many negotiate BEFORE signing the deal.

Forget it, at least in the US you won't find an option that is better than paying $500. At least that was my experience…

Tell them you want a regular key fob instead of a display key, better deal for the dealer too.

back in 2018 it wasn't possible to order a car with 3 keys (1 digital, 2 regular), if the digital key was part of the build. Few members from here tried to change the digital to regular, and either they were unsuccessful, or it was pricey.

Looks like this:



Basically has a touch screen, and allows you to see things like fuel levels, etc. You can also perform remote tasks with it. I think on some models you can use it to remote park your car (park it while you stand outside).

However it's big and bulky and requires regular charging. Probably better of with a normal key and do your remote tasks and view other car info using the smartphone app...
