2019 X3 Water Leaking From Ceiling

Hello all,

the other day I got into my car and see water dripping out of the ceiling from the console above the rearview mirror where the lights are. I never had any issues with water leaking into the cabin prior to this. The issue just appeared out of nowhere, my car is mainly kept in a garage also so I don't see how any debris from outside could clog the sunroof drains. I drove the car the the dealer while it was still leaking and water began pouring out whenever I turned my car.

The headliner in the area was soaking wet and I am worried about potential damage to electronics in the car or mold issues.

Has anyone had this issue and had it resolved by their dealer? If so what did the dealer replace? I'm assuming this will be covered under warranty.

See the link below for a video of the issue:

That is unfortunate indeed. What did your dealer say when you brought it in? Had you recently had it washed or in a rain storm? Most likely clogged drain from sunroof.

Sunroof drain? and agree with others, this is a warranty job, the headliner will need to come out

Update: dealer found both from sunroof drains “kinked” which caused the overflow into cabin. Fix was to drop headliner, untwist them, and reattach. I have no idea what caused them to get like that. They also replaced the rear sunroof glass gasket as It was loose.

Same issue and solution that I experienced. Worth noting that depending where the leak is on the sunroof weatherproofing depends where the water gets in and where it goes. In mine it looked like it was coming in through the door into the driver foot well. Turned out it was coming in through the roof and then running down towards the windscreen and down the pillar coming out by the door and pooling in the mat.

It took 3 days to dry the car out before they could fit the new seal and then 2 days testing before they were happy it was fixed. No problem as I have been at home for 9 months due to COVID!
