Question on Warming Up Engine before Driving
Hello All - had a question for all regarding whether it is beneficial to allow the engine to warm up a bit before driving. The F25 manual states drive immediately, but I noticed that the shifting is a bit rough until the engine is near normal operating temp. I usually start out in sport mode. Can anyone comment on whether or not to let it warm up a bit? I have 69.5K on the odo and am getting the trans flushed next month. Thank you

I always drive off right away. Tranny may jerk a bit going into 2nd. gear but this is normal, not an issue. Car at 98K miles, did trans and transfer case floods at 75K.

I usually give it 30 seconds - 1 minute before driving off. Just enough time for the cold start idle to come down to regular idle. It's for my own peace of mind, I know people say it's a waste of time and fuel but I don't mind it one bit.
I think your fine but is there any reason why you start off in sport mode? For a cold turbo engine, I would assume just pushing the engine to higher rpms while it's still cold wouldn't be the best practice. |

Thank you - yes, also going to do transfer case, and front and rear diff fluids as well next month. Plugs and coils to follow. I like the response of the accelerator in sport mode, as my driveway fronts a 50mph country road where people rarely do the speed limit

High rpm should be eliminated until warmed up, so putting it in sport and running it hard to get onto the 50mph road is bad on the engine for sure, but sounds like you don't have of a choice. |

I'm with the 30 second wait before getting under way. And operating temperature before any pedal-to-the-metal sprints.

Thank you all for the responses - as a follow up, since I purchased the car, I noticed the auto stop start feature seems to feel like it will stall on light acceleration in Comfort mode. However, in sport mode, no feel of stalling at all. Would anyone know if changing out the plugs and ignition coils might alleviate the problem? Being a newbie, not sure if I am experiencing normal operation or not. It never stalls, however.
