Update on my audio upgrade to base HiFi676 system.

A big thanks to Jinetix he has been very helpfull and has guided me through the upgrade process, as well as fellow members on this forum.

Initially I was venturing down the track of updating speakers first and then maybe the amp and was considering Audison AMP/DSP. Eventually ended up with installing MATCH UP 7DSP as a first step. I have attached some photos to show mounting side of it.

In regards to mounting plate i just ended up using C shaped aluminum channel to mount on the base plate and mounted DSP on it, and left some space on left handside for any future mono amp install for subwoofer.

Supply wise hooked into small junction box next to the battery for +VE and then for -VE connected to chassis where battery terminal is terminate aswell.

Still learning MATCH DSP tool. Jinetix shared a tuning file and found some tuning files on this forum.

Its a big difference in terms of audio quality. Now the sound is more staged and clarify has increased a lot. With base HiFi676 factory setup sound was more concentrated on center speaker but now with upgrade its well balanced.

Next i am looking at possibly adding a small external sub to fit in the trunk under the trunk floor panel. I am new to this so trying to learn about the setup and options. I not looking at too bassy/loud subwoofer.

Dont want it to be supper expensive aswell.

Would like to hear feedback from fellow members have installed a sub in the trunk.

It seems the reason for BASS being missing was incorrect setup of MEC card in my setup. Fixed up the settings today had to change the sensitivity to 30v/8v and remove the load jumpers.

Then had to use AUX L/R for subwoofers, it made a difference.

I not 100% sure about the settings in the DSP tool. Could fellow members help me check if my settings are correct.

Just getting into this thread. Looks to be a bunch of great info above. Has anyone attempted a custom setup of Amp & Sub? I am not looking to replace the OEM amp which seems like what a lot of others are doing, but am only looking to add that amp/sub for my extra cargo space where the spare would go.

From what I've gathered I would need a harness to intercept the signal going into the OEM amp. From there I can use that with either the included LOC or buy the LC2I and send that to the Amp & Sub?

Correct me if i am wrong you are trying to add external sub and a amp to feed that in. In that case yes you would need a LOC from my understanding.

I am also thinking/considering adding an external sub in the trunk.

Just an update, I changed front door speaker's with Focal ISBMW100L. The difference after changing the door speakers is day and night. Mid range is so much clear and overall sound is crisp and bass is punchy.

Factory speakers are really low quality speakers.

The HK in the G01 is really rubbish. I came from a 2018 G30 530e with HK. I had both cars together for 2 weeks while I waited for the G30 to be collected, so was able to do a detailed back to back. But I had the G30 for 4 years so didn't really need to. The difference is really night and day. The bass is OK in the G01 but everything else sounds like someone has put a sock in the speakers. I have played extensively with the equaliser and have got the best I can out of it, but it is still rubbish. I am going to change the front speakers to see if that helps enough as I don't really want to mess with the electronics. But it is probably down to the amp which I think they have downgraded to the RAM system which is causing new buyers a problem. I think the HK was 600w and is now 450w or something.

Anyone noticed a constant hissing noise since audio upgrade. Since i added MATCH UP 7DSP and changed door speakers i can hear a constant noise from the speakers. Once I start driving after a short while it goes off, when car is parked it comes back up again.

Any idea what would be causing this noise.

The HK will always lack low freq because it doesn’t use a sub. That said, with changes to surround field and EQ adjustment it sounds decent enough. Also, rolling back the pano roof blind improves sound to my ears

Where did you buy it?

EDIT: is it the 7DSP model, or is it the 7BMW?

LOL - I do that for acoustic reasons too. I'm the type of guy that built sound absorbing panels for my TV room :->

That said, it still sounds shit :-( [the car that is ;-)]

If you have a 2020+ model, you need the 7DSP. If you have a 2018-2019 model, you need the 7BMW.

To those that have researched this or installed it, why the 7DSP?

The HK sound has:

front left door
front right door
center dash
rear left door
rear right door
left D-pillar
right D-pillar

That's 7 channels

The 7DSP has 65 watts RMS x 5 at 4 ohms + 160 watts RMS x 2 at 2 ohms

Wouldn't the 10DSP be the one that is needed? This one has 65 watts RMS x 8 at 4 Ohms and 160 watts x2 at 2 Ohms for the subs.

Sure you would have one channel not used on the amp, but it covers all speakers.

If you have the HK system, you do need the 10DSP. And yes, you do need that 1.7RAM harness for the 7DSP.. a different one for the 10DSP (MATCH PP-BMW 1.9RAM-HK).

Awesome, thanks!

EDIT 1: with this amp, you dont need the lc2i, correct? I understand this is a plug-and-pray with the extra harness (pp-bmw 1.9ram)

EDIT 2: is there anywhere in the US where the harness is sold?

Yeah, with the harness and a simple amp wiring kit, it's plug-and-play. I had to purchase mine from a seller in the UK on eBay. It's possible to get aftermarket amps and DSPs to work with harnesses from TechnicPnP.. installation process is just a lot more involved.
