Because of supply chain issues, I'm not sure that would be the case now, as the financing lock was 90 days, and that was the thing that gave me access to the best BMW incentives of the time period. I would not expect a car ordered a week ago to deliver in the next 90 days.
You're correct, I put a 1k deposit on my build. I've leaned my lesson about new car purchases and will 100% walk away even if it's built to what I want. I have a build date of June 24th, hopefully sooner. We'll see how the situation is in a few months.

I avoided getting myself locked into a rate or give them a sense that "they had me" in a deal. They weren't to happy with the idea of just taking my deposit without signing a contract. I literally spent 1 1/2 hours there with majority of the time spent going back and forth with their finance guy.

The rate lock is tied to BMWFS credit application. If you completed one online, then you are automatically rate locked. It's not a bad thing; you get the better of the rates/incentives between the month of the rate lock and the month you take delivery. Also, I understand that BMWFS is extending the rate lock period from 60 days to 90 days (120 on west coast).

Also, whenever I have ordered a BMW (5 of them), I simply provide them with a deposit and initial the order form. No way I'm locking into a contract until I have seen and examined the vehicle. Also, not even sure you can sign a lease contract until delivery - you don't want to be making lease payments while the car is being built and shipped!!!

Just make sure that's before incentives.

Follow up This is a general huge thank you. I used the advice from everyone here which was totally on target. Learned what folks paid, learned what options I wanted, learned what percentage I wanted to ask for prior to incentives. Made this easy. I asked a few places and liked what I got remotely from a Georgia dealership. My local dealerships couldn’t come anywhere close to the offer. Decided to pick up at Bmw performance center in South Carolina and had a blast. They did such a great job I would recommend highly. It was worth the drive back to NO. I love the car, love what I chose, had a good experience remotely with the SA and was happy with the deal. The advice here is spot on, even learned much more here about pluses and minuses of certain options than some of dealerships knew.
You guys are the best!

Did you get a better deal by picking up at the performance center vs what the dealership offered you?

This forum is very helpful so thanks everyone for your insight.

I am interested in financing a xDrive30i build and am contemplating waiting for the 2021 model. The May 2020 APR dropped to 0.9% and I am able to get a decent discount off MSRP before incentives from a local dealer on a 2020 build.

Would I lose out on the low APR, dealer discount and incentives if I waited for the 2021 model? Are these essentially eliminated with the launch of a new model?

On the contrary, there are some great incentives. You're just looking in the wrong forum. From the X3M/X4M Forum:

Thoughts on this deal

Hi all,

I'm hoping that someone can give me some thoughts on this deal. This quote is from February, when I ordered the car. I wanted to go back and calculate the lease using the MF for May (when I'll take possession and execute lease), but will be honest in saying that I'm a bit confused. The residual value listed seems low for a 36/10 lease, which is what this was supposed to be quoted for.

Please don't hate on the new guy...I'm trying to learn this and read all the forums.

No hating necessary. It does look low. Try pumping your numbers in here: https://leasehackr.com/calculator. Your implied residual is about 46% of MSRP, which seems about 10% below what it should be. I'm not familiar with the form you've got there, but Drive Off seems high (should be first month's PMT, Down Payment, Dealer Fees, State fees, and upfront taxes). I feel like there's an implied down payment in there. Anyhow, read through Leasehackr.com and play around with the calculator. You'll learn a bunch that way.

Thanks. I'm not a fan of this form at all. The $4,600 drive off was inclusive of a $1,350 down payment, plus the $3,250 in rebates. That didn't make sense to me, considering the rebates were already reflected above to get to the selling price. I'll spend some more time on leasehackr this afternoon.

It's very common for the rebate to be included in the "down payment" number on the dealer generated offer forms like this. And this is why I usually ignore their generated offer form entirely and instead ask them point questions e.g. "what is the exact amount I have to write a check for on Day 0?".

Question about dealing with a broker (soCal - LA) - should i be treating them like a dealer (haggling on msrp % etc) or are they really offering what they can do upfront? (typing this question out makes me feel like an idiot)

So I was offered 9k off my X3 M40i that I built to my liking. That discount is also including the 5k incentive. Should I be going for more of a discount or am I pushing it? my build is about $69.5k with delivery fee.

I just received the breakdown of my payments and associated fees for my X3. Im confused by the taxes, why isn't my down payment and incentives being deducted prior to taxes being charged?
