Transmission Malfunction / Auto H Q

So i have a new issue.

Ever since I had my 2013 X3 serviced (a simple oil change) at the local dealership I have an issue with the car.

I come to a stoplight with Auto H on.

The car turns the engine off as usual.

When engine comes back on (with the usual jolt) i get an Error Message and the car puts itself into Park.

I must place the car back to D and then you are still an auto whole mode.

Anyone else have this? know the cause?

I am scheduled to have the dealership look at this next week.

Over the years there's been a few reports about the start/stop experiencing hiccups on restart. Unaware of how they've been resolved. Did the engine stall?

No stalls at all. Just an error message and a switch to park.

And now it also gets the error when it comes back on but no auto hold enabled.

JMB, if battery low/bad, the electronics go heywire. One reason for bad battery could be generator not charging to full voltage, in order to enable charging during coasting (to save fuel) - two remedies:
-reprogram to full charging - bulletin:SIB 610314
-use trickle (smart) charger once a month.

We sometimes dont use the X3 for a week or more - after about 10 days when you start it it can be a bit odd then sorts its self out....
We now have a trickle charge and connect that if we go 7 days - not had an issue since.

I want to hear more about this trick charge thing. I do not follow. Please tell more.

I was told that when the charge is low, the car is not sure it has the charge to restart, it handles the situation by kicking itself to Neutral / Park.

I will learn more when I pick it up.

However, this was the original battery on a 2013 with almost 60k miles. And here in Florida, batteries do not last so long.

Tjalle, you are not kidding when you say "if battery low/bad, the electronics go haywire". Reminds me of when I had an E90. When that battery died the car literally went nuts. Every display in the car was doing crazy stuff.

This car was just kicking itself into an error message and park from drive upon restart from when it went to sleep at stoplights.

Polo, sorry I just got the number on a X4 thread.

JMB, there are a number of computerized trickle chargers, which will fully load your battery and then keep it fully loaded. I.e you can have it connected whenever convenient.

A tricklecharger will, probably, double your batterylife.
