X3 problem w/ AC

Having an issue with my F25 - 2011 X3 28i (n52 - NA 6 cylinder) which has about 45K on the clock

See attached video - seems that when the AC compressor is running a loud noise and slight vibration from the engine bay - I think the compressor itself is fine as it blows cold but the pulley wheel assembly may be going out? Not sure if this is common or if you've heard of similar issues.

Wanted to see if you may know of the culprit - also getting code attached in photo (8011A0).

AC on - https://drive.google.com/open?id=1RU...P3moO3-mnQWHWE

AC off - https://drive.google.com/open?id=1z8...7p8vvQFyon2PB8

Thanks in advance for any help

It could be the bearings in the pulley on the belt tensioner are worn; but your mileage is low, pulleys normally last near 80-100K miles. Do a visual inspection, if serpentine belt is original it's due for change.

With belt off or belt tension relieved you can readily spin the pulley to check for play in the bearings.

I can't make sense of the fault code, hmm...

Hey Bill,

Thanks for the info, certainly will check it out.

Belt looks to be fine so far and the car is originally from LA (Im in WA) So I assume the AC was used a ton due to the large amount of humidity down there.

Someone told me about the acuator doors but not too sure about how the whole HVAC system works as a whole

I will investigate and if anything positive I will share. Cant imagine im the only one out there with similar issues with F25

Thanks,

Jake

Not sure why the tensioner pulley would be the problem since the tensioner pulley is in use whether the A/C is on or off and the OP said is only make sthe noise when the A/C is on?

I'd use a stethoscope and listen to the compressor since it only spins when the A/C is on and the clutch area may be making the noise?

Could certainly be the compressor itself, its noticeable enough to hear inside or outside of the car from a distance.

For now im running the AC as much as possible for an actual problem to arise hopefully the AC goes completely out that way it motivates me to actually drop the cash for a new AC. But until then it manages to pump cool air in the car with a very annoying sound.

Time will tell and I will upload and post update once I have one. I also have a problematic second child (E90) that owns the other half of my wallet

Thanks for any help and educated guesses

If the compressor is going bad, it could be sending internal compressor debris throughout the rest of the a/c system causing substantial additional expensive repairs. I recommend having a professional diagnose the noise to make sure it's not causing more damage to the system.
