I guess it's finally here. Lease up in 8 months and it doesn't look like the (G01) X3 M40i or the X3M will make it to market in time for me. The GLC63/S AMG will probably make it to market first as well.

Damn you BMW! What to do, what to do lol.

The GLC43 AMG would really be a serious contender for me as well.

BUT just something about it doesn't make me feel like its "mine".

I would consider X4 M40i or Macan GTS if you dont need all the space or even X5 50i if you do. I don't think you can go wrong with any of these cars.

Personally, given I'm making the purchase next year, I would go for the Macan GTS or GLC43.

Can we do a friendly comparison of the X3 35i vs X4 M40i

A better comparison would be X3M40i / X4M40i, even though they serve different purposes. I'm hoping that it (X3M40i or X3M) makes the market by May/June 2017. Macan Turbo would be great but after some serious thought, it's too small. X5M would be my first choice but it's too big. X3 class is perfect size.

Unless the X3 35i is with a tune like PIEZON otherwise the stock M40i is going to win in every category.

But definitely a Tuned X3/X4 35i would be nice for comparisons reasons, I've tried getting Audi SQ5 or Macans out to the drag they always have an excuse and they have a whole bunch of tune and stuff, I'm still stock (just added Downpipe last night).

Almost. Every category but space. I need the trunk space/height the X3 provides. X5M sized down to an X3M would be perfect. I would take a X3M40i until the X3M enters production the following year.

No thank you FPace / Levante

We can expect to see a GLC63 AMG (and even a S version in suv and coupe form) before we see a X3M/X4M.

So the real comparison comes in @ 18 months via:
Macan Turbo PP vs GLC 63S AMG suv/coupe vs RSQ5 vs X3M/X4M.

+1.

I REALLY want an X3M but don't know if I can wait 3 years to get into one. Lease is up way before release. This GLC63 AMG (S) is going to whip some ass in this segment.
469bhp and a possible 503bhp S version. Wow. Hurry up BMW and take my money with the X3M before it's too late lol.

You know that in order to be allowed to buy a MB, you need to prove that you own - at least - one hat? Should be no problem in Texas.

Front of xtomi is impressive though.

I wouldn't be too sure. Earlier this year I was 100% intent on buying the GLC AMG Line, but changed my mind after driving one. It's a lovely car but isn't fun to drive like the X3 which is older but puts a smile on your face and has a fantastic infotainment system.

The other day I read an comparison between the GLC43 AMG, Macan and X4 and the two latter scored more on driving dynamics, handling and even ground clearance.

I was under the impression by a local dealer in the city that the AMG version would not be able to be test driven until December. You are lucky to get behind the wheel so early.

Could you post the article you read comparing the 3? Can't seem to find an apples to apples comparison.

Personally, I can't see how a 360+ hp, 0-60 in 4.7 AMG wouldn't be fun to drive. On paper it would seem to run circles around our F25 35i.

After some research, There is no doubt the X3M is going to be my first choice. How long do we have to wait and what the hell do I do while I wait lol.

Exactly. The X3 is the perfect size for many of us in this segment. Which is why we have held on to our 2012 X3 35i awaiting the G01 M40i, expected to be released about a year from now from most reports, give or take a few months.

I haven't had much time lately but did combine the analyses of the X3 35i with Crash's data, the X4 40i with Rob's and the NL video data, and my theoretical runs of the X3 G01 40i and M variants from long ago (or so it seems now). As the X3 should have an improved Cd c/w the X4 given the blades, vents and breathers, and should have the advantage of the lighter frame technology (about 200 kg less), it would seem to have the advantage over the X4 in the 1/4 mile. But that remains to be seen at the track.

Max, according to your graph, there would be very little difference between a X3M40i(G01) and a X4M40i(F26), even with the G01 weight reduction...or am I reading this wrong? I would have assumed the results from F25/F26 to G01/G02 would have been much better. Thanks for the chart!

It has been a while since I ran all of the equations for each model, so I went back and reviewed the charts in the '!X3 Acceleration Files - Master List!' thread [ http://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1149189 ]. I was incorrect in writing 200 Kg weight reduction for the G01, as it is estimated to be more in the 100 Kg (roughly 200 lbs) range, so apologies for that error.

I would agree with you - I think we will probably see more of a real world performance difference than the graph currently suggests. But there are still so many unknowns about the G01's final weight, Cd, dimensions (etc) that this is really just an approximation.

Looking forward to its release as it seems it should be a major advance across the board when c/w our current 2nd gen X3s.
