Is a non-run flat "low profile" significantly rougher than a run flat?

Can I put non-low profile tires on later?

Are the OEM 20" non-run flats (Pirellis I think?) OK in the wet?

What about winter?

Ultimately I'm trying to make a call before I order, so any input will be appreciated.
Yes low profile is likely to cause more damage if hitting a pot hole.

Run-flat results in a stiffer ride because the sidewalls of the tire are thicker so the tire can maintain shape if deflated.

Yes, you can put on non low profile tires after but need new rims. Officially M cars can go to 19" but many here put on 18" rims.

In winter run-flat and non-run-flat doesn't really affect the performance. Things like tire make/model/type and size are more important.

I thought run-flat tyres were stiffer than non-run flat to maintain the ability to operate without air inside.

The run-flat side wall stiffness is why some claim the ride is harsher than non run flat.

I always rest my hand on the shifter and sometimes get paranoid over the possibility. Once I did something n accidentally shifted into neutral while driving. Unfortunately there’s just no where else for the non steering hand to go (other than maybe the steering wheel).
Go ahead and try and let us know the result$. I’ve shifted into neutral a few times accidentally too, but this is something you should be able to do. Hopefully the computer would prevent park. At least that’s a button you’d have to press.

Not sure that’s possible but , I know if you have the shifter to the left in sport and with your foot on the brake turn the car off . The shifter automatically goes Back to the center and car goes into park .

Yes, I'm sorry I wrote that backwards.

Putting aside the natural advice for two hands on the wheel, why not hold the wheel with your right hand and rest your left arm on the door panel armrest? That way, you’ve still given up the same amount of steering control and you can rest an arm and keep your hand away from the shifter! Bingo!

Sounds like you won’t like the MY25 X3 and beyond!
