Back in late 80's early 90's Newark NJ and surrounding towns were number 1 in car theft/jacking.

Was well known if you planned an insurance fraud that's where it was going to happen

You can't defend leaving you car unlocked. It's a reason for keyless entry.

You simply touch the ribs on the door handle. It's UNACCEPTABLE PERIOD. Just one slip up and it's over.

Treat it like crossing the street.
You Gon ALWAYS look both ways. Yes mistakes happen. But leaving a CAR unattended shouldn't be one of them.

Too bad she didn't have a 1980s Ford Explorer. The thief would have died and nobody would have cared. Instead, he will go to jail for a few years and be right back out doing the same thing.

I don't get why all the hate for leaving the car running. Some don't want to stop and start their engines constantly and some might want to keep the car warm in freezing weather. Lucky? Seems to me being a responsible parent is a matter of choice and not luck. Totally separate issue than choosing to risk financial loss over one's own personal property. It's just a car, folks.
