Wheel Transport + Storage
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com My 691s will be arriving in the next day or two, and I realized I should probably get some wheel covers now that I'll have 2 sets of wheels. Anyone have any they really like? I don't need anything crazy...just something that's going to get the job done and won't rip. Saw these on Amazon that looked reasonable enough. They also sell felt covers that they recommend buying - anyone have thoughts on those? |

I use the Heyner bags. See.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/HEYNER-H735.../dp/B00AQM8GDA Haven't used the felt pads. I actually use the old play mats my kids used. Hopefully the pictures will show what I mean. Has done the job for many years!!! |

I've got a lot of felt pads and after seeing the foam mats, I definitely think that's the way to go. Most felt pads are smaller and won't provide nearly the protection and/or coverage of the foam mats. Plus, an added bonus is the mats are cheap!
I've used Tire Rack, OEM BMW and generic Amazon tire totes (in fact, I've got all 3 sets on rims in my garage as I type this), and they are all the same. Just be sure whatever you choose will be wide enough to protect your rims. I've got my wife's 21" Q7 rims in these totes. I wanted something in a different color to distinguish from the other sets, so this fit the bill perfectly

The mats are a decent enough idea for storage, but I actually want the felts more for transport in the car in case there's brake dust on the wheel when we're moving them. |

There are lots of threads and hundreds of subsequent posts regarding winter wheels and tyres on this forum, so I’m going to have to dedicate the time to delve and hopefully choose a good rim and tyre combination. I like the idea of saving my 21” rims from the crap winter (salty) weather, not to mention sharing the tyre load which will give the 21’s extended life. There’s a fairly decent wheel specialist nearby... I don’t know whether to get a set of non BMW rims, or stick with OEM rims? At this stage I don’t even know whether I’d get the biggest choice of winter tyres in a 19” or a 20”. If I find anything useful I’ll post it for the benefit of others who may be considering the same. |

And if it doesn't, it'll be fine for the 45 minute ride to the suburbs where I'm storing them, and I'll figure something else out from there and return the felts to Amazon. |
