BMWUSA M40i configurator is currently being updated. It is down. Which jives with the response I received in twitter from BMW saying 2020 would be up by end of the week. So we will know for sure soon

Had a loaner M340i for 4 days while my X4 M40i was in service. I was the first to drive the car off the lot(only 6 miles on the odometer) and it was an Xdrive. During that timeframe I concluded that the bump in horsepower might be a bit overstated.
I felt no real difference in power or acceleration. TBH, I started to wonder if BMW down tunes their cars on purpose during the break in period because I felt no real improvements over the B58 in my car. |

Especially the X4 folks. These are big upgrades for a car that was released nine or 10 months ago.

Yup, and of course there are plenty of dealers who are right now still telling prospective buyers, "Nah, there's nothing new on the 2020 models . . . now have you seen this great 2019 that we can give you a smokin' deal on today . . ."

Only the OP knows for sure, but I certainly got a chuckle from it.

Sorry, just kinda came out like that. A much more PC version of, “Holy F4cking Sh!ttttt!!!”, which was my first choice, but, being a people pleaser, didn’t want to offend.

As I said in a post a couple of months ago (which was ignored), horsepower alone tells you NOTHING about a car's performance. Acceleration and top speed depend on both horsepower and GEARING. One reason to raise horsepower (and torque) is so that gearing can be raised in such a way that increases fuel effiency and lowers emissions without sacrificing performance characteristics. Those are the things that manufacturers are most focused on these days.
So it doesn't surprise me one bit that the performance remains the same. Even if efficiency also remains the same, the higher HP number helps to get people like you fanboys excited to buy the car. And didn't Mercedes just increase HP in the AMG GLC series? German car brands are constantly watching each other. |

Another piece of the puzzle. I decoded the VIN for my 2020 X3 M40 that just started in the production queue yesterday and this popped out (note the power is listed as 285 which I assume is kW = 382 hp and the engine type is B58D)
