Yeah, go off of part numbers and not the style.

I was doing some research and found that 225/ 55 / 19 and 245/ 50 / 19 have the same diameter.

You should be able to fit a 225 tire on a 7.5" rim.

Please someone, correct me if I'm wrong.

Yes, you can generally go up or down a bit in the first number if you compensate with the second number. You can use tiresize.com to compare and see how it might affect your speedometer, if at all. Just be aware that it may affect the overall look if your tires are on the narrow or wide side for your wheels.

For example, if you have 275/40 R20 you might be able to look at:

255/45R20, 265/40R20, 285/40R20, 295/35R20

All of these will affect your speedo by less than 1MPH at 60MPH.

I’d suggest checking with your installer though, rather than just taking my word for it

Yes, but the problem is finding a 19x7.5J in 5x112 rim from after market dealers. Even 19x8J costs like $300~CAD/each for the decent looking ones.

I decided to go for 235/50R19, it's only 1% off from 245/50R19 and way cheaper.

I found another 20" wheel combo from BMW with matte black 695s. It's a 245/45/20 square with Pirelli winters.

https://www.baum-bmwshop24.de/bmw-wi...l-rdci-x3-g01/

Little cheaper here:

Disregard this Post.

I clicked on the wrong model on the Tire Rack website.

I love these. Not sure they would ship to the US. I searched everywhere for something similar. Looks like an EU only wheel?

Try giving your dealer the part number and see if they can order it.

I think that is the most cost effective choice, plus the diameter of this 225/55R19 tire is the same as the 20" (245/45R20).

My only worry is that the 225 tire would be too narrow for the 8" rim..

Will 225 tires fit 8.5" wide rims? that would be perfect
225/55 is fine

Did you order the M40i already? I'm in Quebec too. I order the M40i last month, the winter tire gaves me a headache:

Not yet still not happy about the lack of the M Steering wheel. What did you decide for the winter tires? 18" or 19"? Did you choose the standard 21" wheels?

Yep, I ordered M40i with ultimate pkg which comes with 21 inch rim. I tried to find the 245/40/21 winter tire but seems there is no option for this size, so I probably will go 255/40/21 winter tire. The 19 inch tire and rim were so expensive

Where did you find winter tires in that size? Are they runflats?

Costco, but I don't think it is run flat, it is 255/40/21 pirelli scorpion winter. And I'll put 275/35/21 pirelli winter sottozero 3 at rear. Which total is 2538 after tax

I think you'd be better off doing a square setup with the 255/40/21s, they have the listed rim widths as 8.5-10".

There's over a half an inch difference in diameters between the 255/40/21 Scorpion Winter (29.1") and the 275/35/21 Sottozero 3 (28.5").

More Snow Tire Options

After a bunch of research, my husband and have concluded that if you drop to 19” 245/45 vs 245/50 that it opens up a lot of options for dedicated snow tires. We live in Lake Tahoe. Had a monster snow season last year and went with Michelin XI3 dedicated snow tires on my 2014 335 GT. The thought is that they are better in the dry than Blizzaks and almost as good in the snow. We drive out of the snow a fair amount to the SF Bay Area and found this to be a good fit for our heavy snow and dry driving conditions. My new 2018 X3 M40i build will be completed tomorrow. I opted for the 19” all season assuming I would swap to dedicated snow tires immediately and have the all seasons for the in between seasons. Didn’t want to not make it up the hill to Tahoe if it is snowing on delivery day. Limited options in 19” 245/50; lots of options in 19”245/45. My husband says that I won’t notice the difference in ride, but it will help prevent speeding tickets because when the speedometer says I’m going 70 mph, I will actually be going a few miles slower 😁. Knowing that will allow me to go a few mph faster 😁 ha ha ha...
I will ask my specialty tire shop what they think as well about the tires mentioned above.

Talked to Tire Rack, and they said that they have to physically measure the X3 M40i in person before their site will identify the winter tire options...think they are in the Midwest, maybe Chicago or Indianapolis...anyone nearby want to take theirs in to be measured? 😁

If all goes according to plan, I will be driving my wifes X3 M40i back from PA on December 8th on my way to Chicago. I literally have to drive by Tire Rack over in South Bend IN.

I'd let them measure the x3 for a free set of 19" winter tires. LOL.

They’ll work. At 70mph speedo (if accurate) you’d really be going 67.8mph.

https://tiresize.com/comparison/

I’d be more concerned about the look, they’re almost a full inch smaller in diameter and the tires may look noticeably small. Have you looked at maybe 235/50? Those will be closer, should still fit the bead, and narrower tires are better for snow anyway.

Big difference in true snow country in the mountains. I live in Tahoe, and any vehicle I have owned here is a different vehicle with dedicated snow tires. Wouldn’t drive the mountains here without dedicated snow tires. The conditions change with elevation and the steep grades demand good dedicated snows. But, also like to consider tires for how they perform in the dry for trips to SF. Get the best snow tires that also perform decently well in the dry. I have found the Michelin Xi3 snow tire up to the task. Think I can put 245/45 on my 19” rims for the X3 M40i and go with the Michelin XI3...checking tire specialist to confirm.

Great idea..I will see what my tire guru comes up with too in case we are missing something. Someone else had the chart to give various tire options by rim, not sure how to add it.
