Just had Conti DWS tires installed and might not be happy..
I have a 2019 X3M40i on the factory 19s. The Pirelli tires were too harsh for my wife and I and seemed to be wearing quickly. The ride was just so bumpy even on the smaller 19s.
Went to Conti DWS 06s since I'm looking to use them as all seasons in Ohio where we do get some snow. Initially I loved the Contis driving home from tire shop because the ride comfort is 10x better. So much more comfortable and super quiet. But after some spirited driving and highway speeds, I feel like some of that rail tight immediate turn in is gone. Feels a little more floaty at speed. Still handles competently but not like it's on rails anymore. Not sure what to do as I already sold the stock Pirellis. Is it possible to return / exchange tires within a week of ownership? Would the Michelin Sport A/Ss be a better compromise in improved ride comfort with some light snow traction while still having tighter steering response? Any thoughts appreciated. |

The Michelin as3+ will have far crisper handling and more grip than the conti. The ride won’t be nearly as soft as the conti but better than the run flats. The new Good Year exhilarate looks good also.

Check with your tire supplier/store on this, bet they will do it no problem. FYI, I had Conti DW's (not DWS) few years ago on my 5 Series sedan, later fitted same car with Michelin AS/3+...my comments are similar to other poster in this thread; Conti's had soft sidewalls in comparison to the Michelin, so bit more cushy ride. Can't speak to the ice/snow grip as I'm in SoCal but the Michelin will be more performance oriented than the Conti. Good luck/Bill |

Have you never seen the old discount tire commercial where the little old lady chucks the tire through the shop window?

I actually bought them at Discount Tire and yes their website says they do returns for almost any reason. So that's good to know!
I wonder if they will let me exchange for the Michelin's and if after a day or two on the Michelin's, I decide the DWS were better then I can switch back? Essentially allowing me to try two sets of tires and pick one to go with. |

I would adjust tire pressure first to see how they feel. I had mine 32/35 as per listed bmw spec and found turn in a bit soft. I am now running 34 front/35 rear and that tightened it up a bit. I do still find the dws06 softer than the stock Bridgestone alenzas and the handling is not as "tight" but I don't get the harsh jolts over bad pavement like I did with the run flats. Overall, I like them.

OP, your observation is exactly why my GF loves her DWS 06, and why I'm going to try Pirelli PZero AS Plus on the M40i
With the 19" 245 square set-up you have, I wouldn't hesitate to try up to 40/40 psi on the DWS06. They really are a damn good tire, but my experience is the turn in off-center is just a bit more relaxed - they still handle great once you load 'em up.

I’m actually loving reading all of this, as my vehicle has the 21s with the Perelli‘s, and I have 20” rims coming with the Conti DWS tires in the stock staggered sizes. Maybe the 20s in the Conti's will be a great compromise between stiff and too soft?
I don’t think discount tire will let you swap back again to the Conti's after you try the Michelin‘s, but if they do, let me know, that would be just about the best customer service a person could ask for! |

For an Ohio winter, you will benefit from a tire with the 3 Peak Mountain Snowflake Symbol, recently possible on all season tires, without having to go to dedicated winter tires. Having lived around Cleveland, and my son there now, you do get some snowdumps! Some call these "all weather" tires. Read this link before making your next decision. In particular, note how well these perform in the dry in the tests shown.

If so, not the first time this has been the case with any vehicle marque. Some setups just don't work well together. |

I think if I had the 20s or 21s the Continentals would be perfect, but with the 19 square set up it just makes the ride a bit too soft for the power and overall suspension/dynamics of the vehicle. I'm going to put another 100 miles on them in the next couple days and see how they do, but thinking best bet might be to exchange through Discount Tire for the Michelin A/Ss.
Then after going through one winter and summer with them, I'll decide what to do long term. Might sell the tires at that point depending on experience and go to a dedicated winter and summer set up. Would need a whole new set of rims though. Does anyone know if the Michelin PS4 255/45 size would work fine on square 19s? If so I could do those for the summer on stock wheels. And dedicated winters on another set of stock wheels. Really like the stock 19" look anytime of year. |

My OEM setup is 245/50/19. I just changed out to winter tires which are Continentals Winter Contact. Because I just love the contis all over now. So when the temperature dropped to below freezing I got the alert like I already said low tire pressure. So I checked. It was high 30's psi. Usually that show up when youre under 30psi. Yes I did then check IDrive and it says 38 and 45 is minimum recommended. But I figured it out. I guess there are different settings in the IDrive for 100mph+. Because I can change it for under 100 or over. And then the IDrive displays different tire pressure psi. Thoughts?

But a key difference is that the recommendations shown in iDrive are based on the current temperature of the tire after you've driven a while. The door sticker is based on a cold tire - e.g., the car has been sitting in the garage overnight and not drive, and you go out to set the tire pressures.
