Soft windshield

Anyone else having issues with the windshield? I have more chips and divets with this glass than any car I have owned.

Just received the car and brought it to get PPF. Was thinking about getting a windshield film as well since we are going to take it on a road trip in the Summer.

My F25 after 5 years was riddled with tiny pinholes in the glass it was annoying but I got used to it. No idea how it ever got that bad but I now try to avoid following other vehicles for too long on highways if I can avoid it. G01 glass has a minimal marks after 4k miles but there are some esp. in the right light you can see them

On my X5 the deductible for windshield glass was $3000 so effectively no insurance.

Just had the windshield replaced under warranty on my M40i. I had a little crack from a stone hitting the windshield and brought the car to the dealer for windshield repair. But while it was at the dealership, the entire glass just cracked due to the cold weather. My dealer just replaced it under warranty.

this is doing to be a big problem I can tell. i can see a bunch of little nicks tiny chips in mine. nothing that needs to be fixed....yet. I have had mine about 3 months and 2500 miles.

if/when i do need to replace windshield, hoping there is a 3rd party glass replacement as i suspect a replacement stock bmw windshield would have the same problem.

There have been a few threads about this and I agree it seems softer than any other car I've owned. I already have several pinhole sized dings. I try to tell myself they're just water droplets to make it easier to see every day...

I think all vehicle produced in the last 5 years have soft glass. No doubt has to do with how it's produced to satisfy the tree huggers.

All part of the drive to cut weight plus the appalling state of roads. Just replaced glass on M3 which I trade in on Friday. Asked Autoglass guy if BMWs were particularly bad and he [18 years in the job) said no all new cars the same. He had just been to his first new X3, but that was attacked by a guy with a hammer (first threw bottle when car stopped attacked it !!!

Glad I found this thread. My windshield is full of tiny nicks all over, pretty obnoxious in the right light. Wonder if replacing under insurance would work and then maybe coat it with a ceramic? I know with rain and wipers etc it'll go away much sooner than paint ceramic, but could help some?

Ceramic coating won't protect against rock chips

I knew they didn't protect paint but was hoping it may help with the glass...guess not. I'm not even sure they are all rocks. I have not heard many pings on the glass, yet the holes are all over the place. Pretty crazy. haha. Thanks!

It's the crappy glass. My 435 had tons of pits when the lease was up. It looked worse than our beater Hyundai with twice the miles on it.

Interesting Thread -

In less than 1-year ownership of a brand new 2018 X3 M40i, I have had to replace 4 windshields!!

I do not drive Off-Road! Live in Scottsdale Az, and drive on highway lots, but our other car is a 6+ year old Mercedes E-350 Coupe, and only one windshield the whole time.

I am convinced the issue is a combination of factors: 1) High Angle of the Windshield and 2) relatively low (44 inches) base of windshield to road, and now reading about probably poor quality of glass!

Just filed a formal complaint with BMW USA - for whatever that is worth. Told them I will never buy another!
