Tracking Status of My X3

So, on 11/22 my sales guy said my car was entering production and gave me my VIN. I was psyched. I started tracking it online in "My Garage", and I've attached my status. Same status since 11/22. Two weeks later, that status has never changed, and yet my sales guy says it's coming along and scheduled to complete production on 12/9, i.e., Monday.

Is this normal? Is there a better way to check on my car without bugging sales guy? I have found checking on it under My BMW quite unsatisfying. TIA

I just went through something very similar. Mine entered production 11/20 and was estimated to finish 12/5. I kept checking but even on 12/5 it said “entered production” and nothing else. It wasn’t until 12/6 the status changed to “assigned to a carrier” and today it said “left factory”.

If yours is estimated to finish 12/9 it probably will. I’d wait until 12/10 to see if anything changes, my guess is that it probably will and will be on the way to the dealer shortly after. I also called genius and they said mine should arrive at the dealer on 12/9 so I’m hoping that’s accurate. Good luck!

Mine didn't move from "production begins" for two seeks and then rushed through remaining steps in about 3 days. It still arrived at the dealer a few days early. In fact, it was hung up on "waiting for carrier assignment" the day the dealer received it in CO. Hope this helps ease your concerns.

I had a very similar experience. My X3 went "into production," sat there for a week or two, and then very quickly moved through the rest of the process. At the end of the day, it was done, shipped, and at the dealership when they said it would be, but the wait was awful.

Good luck!

Same here - sat there for a while then was suddenly done. Now we've been stuck with "at dealership" for the past week but the dealer says it's not been delivered. The order tracking system could use some improvements

Don't want to derail the thread but does mygarage work for you guys? It asks me to fill out my address and when I do it gives me an error page. I want to check the production but can't online so I have to always call BMW.

This morning my tracking status jumped from "Production Begins" to "Quality Check" skipping 5 steps in between. Ah well...

You can call this automated number 800-831-1117 and ask for production status and then say or enter production order number to get info on car.

Definitely recommend calling the # to check and see what it says - the website has been telling me one thing and the phone number told me a totally different status.

Live Genius rep is best source with up to minute info. Takes a few layers but worth it to talk live. If she's right mine shows up at dealer Wednesday. Be happy anytime this week.

Is the production number just the VIN or something else? I only got a VIN

In my experiences, the production number is pre-vin, then it goes to vin thereafter.

Yep. Dealer should have given(still can) 7 digit production number for folks to reference

The last 7 digits of your vin will also work. The production number may be listed on your work order build sheet. My dealer always has it listed near the top of paper work. The Genuis can give you more info if get stuck in quality control or if it get stuck waiting for carriers especially after the holidays. They can give you estimated dates.

my X4 showed " awaiting carrier assignment" when my dealer called me and said it was in and ready. BMW tracking is just not up to par and once its out of actual production they just have no clue. it was in "awaiting carrier assignment" for several days after I was driving it and had been there for close to 4 weeks at that point.

I tried calling the number and after routing through the ACD got to an actual person who looked up my status using last 7 of VIN. She acknowledged that updates to status are spotty (even when you call as opposed to look on line). She advised that in her experience the updates seem to post more frequently on Fridays and Mondays.

After a week of 'delivered' status our X3 finally showed up - even though when I called the # they still thought it was in transit, as did our CA. He was shocked when suddenly the keys showed up on his desk
