I do my own oil changes between the BMW intervals. I don't drive much but like to change the oil every 6 months or 3000 miles. I hate the 9K or 10K intervals. I am planning to keep this car for 10 years or so and pass on the car to the next owner in good condition.

All I do is remove the vacuum line (i think this is what it is) and get a swivel/32mm to remove the oil filter. The oil filter has groves that allow it to rotate to the correct location so that the small nipple will line up correctly with the oil housing. It takes about 30 minutes to change.

Considering I’ve got 8,500 miles on my 2020, the annual changes are all I’ll likely do.

Dealer charges $200. How much does the DIY save you? Not so much money but time for me as well.

Edited to add, I’m not sure what happened in life that I would ever pay $200 for an oil change and not report them to the police lol.

I spend just under $100 for BMW oil and BMW Filter. I have it down to about 20 minutes, It takes me 25 minutes to get to the dealer and then if I'm just doing oil and waiting, about 90 minutes from pulling into the center to pulling out, then another 25 minutes back to my home or office. The 2+ hours I get to keep are absolutely worth it to me.

The Factory instructions call for a whole lot more work than is necessary. There is a fantastic youtube video in this thread that walks you through everything.

Thanks for that. My issue is I’m doing the work in my driveway as I’ve only got a small 1 car garage which doesn’t have enough room for wrenching.

So, I also have to make sure weather is cooperating. I can only do it on the weekends as well. Dealer I can do on the days I work from home.

I’ll have to take a harder look at the updated vid though.

It's really just dealer price gouging & the same for most manufacturers. The Chevy dealer wants over $250 for an oil change on my Z06 because "it's got a dry-sump and takes more oil". Total cost for me to do it is $60 for 11 qt Mobil 1, $11 oil filter & 15 min of my time.

I'll be doing the oil changes on both my Bimmers after the complementary maintenance is over.

Does anyone have the part number for the "vacuum line" handy that we remove for the "quick" oil change process?
