Gas leaking in cylinder
Hi.
My car is 2013 X3 F25 N20 engine. I replaced used engine(32,000 mileage) on January in Destin FL. It cost $8,500 including labor. Right after replacement engine warning light came up. “Air and Fuel mixture too lean” Mechanic told me air hose has crack and told me the replace it. I had to move town that day because of my military order. I went to another shop in new place. And I replaced air hose. But engine warning light still on with same code. I did everything. Replace cover and injectors and air pump. But engine warning light came up again. This mechanic said they found that there was gas leaking in cylinder. I need engine overhaul to grind all the carbon to stop leaking. It will cost around $4,000. And he said it can’t be 32,000 mileage used engine. Because it was very dirty with carbon. The picture and video, that looks clean because they cleaned it with liquids but he said it not enough. He need to grind more inside. Is there anyone had same experience? Please help me. I bought this car with 15,000 and I’m spending another 15,000 now... Last edited by frogman27; 05-17-2020 at 01:00 AM.. |

Who purchased/installed the replacement engine? (you, your mechanic, etc.)
Did the used engine come with any kind of warranty? If so, what are the details? If there is NO warranty of any sort...on either the engine itself or from the shop that did the installation you are stuck and will need to have the recommended repairs done in order to have a functional car. Or consider other options: like selling the car, etc. Good luck/Bill |

I have 6months parts only warranty at the shop. But I’m out of state for military order. It’s impossible to get there again. The shop ordered used engine to replace. I’m going to request refund for that. Fully or partial. |

problem may arise, aside from you no longer being local to shop that may be shop could claim parts OK and issue caused by your inattention to proper service post install, etc. this could be easily resolved or shop may realize they have commanding position and simply decide to blow off any of your claims. Good luck! |
