X4 Arrived
Then car arrived about a week ago, a full two weeks early. Nice surprise. Upon arrival I instructed the dealer to NOT detail the car but to simply remove the protective film on the exterior and all exterior model badging -- I like the cleaner look and the badging is far too busy to me, YMMV. The SA could hardly stand delivering the car in that condition. I was concerned about the cross-country rail car ride followed by truck carrier, even if by covered carrier. I fully detailed the car myself. Following initial washing I applied Iron-X to the car with no appreciable iron indications. After washing again I wiped down the body with Car Pro Eraser. There was so much contamination on the car I had to clay the paint (Adam's new clay bar) following which the paint was free of contaminants. I then applied two coats of Menzerna PL followed by two coats of Collinite 845. Paint looked pristine afterwards. I removed each wheel, cleaned, clayed, CP Eraser, then applied Optimum Gloss Coat. I need to select some sort of protective film, Clear Bra again I suppose, but I am considering alternatives. First Impressions Surprisingly quick. Love the sports mode but not the sports exhaust. A bit too "ricey" to me. I want the performance without the sound. I will endeavor to see if I can disable the sports exhaust. No tracking or drag racing for me. Definitely a fun sporty car. Wants to really go and ride is solid to the road with the sports mode chassis setting and the MPSS tires -- not nearly soupy like my M-packaged X5. Lights light up the night, but I do miss the curve tracking my previous two BMWs had. I just think it's cool and effective. Auto dimming feature for headlights is very nice. Do not like electronic dipstick -- geesh. Definitely smaller inside coming from my X5, but does not feel cramped. I think it'll be fine. The car needs ventilated seats. I need to cool down the interior. Perhaps ceramic or other uv/heat reducing tint. I like the relatively simple interior (Macan was way too busy for my taste). Love the new instrument panel, HU display, and new i-drive system. Dash and interior panels have upgraded materials. Smaller rear window is not a problem for me, mirrors show me all I need. Will install the roof rails soon -- I need the added practicality but I've already had two mountain bikes in the back (seats down) with front tires on. Need winter wheels and tires soon as well -- I plan to find 19" wheels with RF winter tires and a straight set-up. Hope the lower clearance and rw-bias will perform well in the snow -- this car must be a no-kidding DD. I love the car so far. I think it'll be a good fit for me.

Another pic. Siblings, no; cousins, perhaps.

The sound from M40i and my 35i with M Performance Klappenshalldämpfer (two valves) has been discussed at length.
It seems that most 40i owners are happy with both character and level of sound - including higher level in Sport. There has been one negative comment from one owner to the fact that sound in 40i is electronically enhanced- hence different levels in Comfort/Sport. My Klappen has real sound - but illegal in Track mode I don't dare to support picture, but you can find it - and soundtrack in: Has anyone installed Klappen..... |

Exhaust is not too loud, I just do not like the gurgles and burps, especially on the up-shifts. Seems a bit hokey to me. Trying to figure out how to disable.
