Mobility Kit question

Wondering if you have a X3 with a spare tire, can you simply take it out and switch cover with a X3 with the mobility kit?

Also, for the cars with the spare, when you fold the back seats down, is it flush to the trunk or is there a hump?

I have the spare and the seats sit about an inch lower than the trunk

It can be done, but not that easy:

This is not for the F97 but looks like it should be the same/similar.

Fascinating. It never crossed my mind that anyone would swap out one for the other. I really don't understand why engineers at BMW designed the X3 like that. It makes no sense to me that the spare tire wouldn't sit low enough in so the bottom could be flush with rest of the trunk space. Everyone else has figured out how to do that, & they did it with the other X series vehicles, so what gives?

Agreed. It's a very poor design.
