I've used it in my m4 m3 and this x4m Bc the caps are just so flimsy. Just use a drop literally on each tap. Clip on and that's it.

Gotchya; I may try it without it since I have two, and if it happens again, I'll go all crazy with... crazy glue

Your call. Will definitely prevent future losses, but if you ever needed to use the tow hook, you'd be screwed

I can’t even count on two hands how many times I get home and find this piece dangling. I pop it back in. Give it a tug to make sure it’s secure then go about my business. The design is kinda crappy. My last two bmw’s this has NEVER happened.

Really easy to pop out on its own. Hit a bird once and found it dangling afterwards. Son pointed it out as I drove up at school. Wasn't what I considered a significant impact. My point is something trivial may have happened.

Update; Piece arrive and fit snug. Hope fully it hangs on; I'll make sure when I go to Delta Sonic (anyone in Western NY knows Delta Sonic) it hangs on through the car wash.

High pressure wash like in a touch less car wash can also pop them off.

I lost mine on the race track!
It took 45 days to my dealer to bring one from Germany.

UPDATE: Dealership did pay for replacing the tow hook cover. (along with replacing the ambient lighting strips in both from doors (had several hot spots) AND replaced the windshield! (had some minor warping/distortion.)

Just picked up a new X3M yesterday and it popped off dangling on the way home. Went back to the dealer for some other stuff and it came off again.
After inspection the holes/clips on the car seem to be "damaged". New car manager said it's happening on all of them. Service manager came out and without hesitation ordered a new tow hook cover AND the gloss black bumper trim that the cover latches on to. I believe that is the key part. They put on snapped my old one back on in the meantime with some gummy adhesive that doesn't harden permanently. Looks great and stays on, but they still wan to replace the parts entirely this week.

The first photo is my car. The last one is from a new one sitting on the showroom floor (plastic holes less damaged). Ironically, that showroom car was missing the tow hook cover.

Finally another X3M in Treasure Coast! 😂

I go through so many BMWs. I love them all. Just traded our 2020 X7 for it. Loved the X7, but we love the size of the X3M a lot better. Oh and I don't mind the power and M factor

I haven't seen any around, but I don't get out much since I work from home.

Well, I figured out the issue. We have a Delta Sonic carwash chain up here, which are pretty nice car washes/detail spots, and I'm an unlimited member. After hand washing during the shutdown, I took it in on Tuesday, and as soon as I made it through the carwash to the gas pump, I noticed it dangling again. I popped it back in, but now contemplating a light adhesive.

My dealership finally opened, so I need to get my summers put on (though we're expecting snow on Friday - I hate this place) and I'll talk to them about the issue.

Alternatively, there's a little thief in the car wash, snapping these things off, flipping on eBay, and easily earning a six-figure monthly salary. /s

This happened to me, too. I found this one online but it comes unpainted. Ended up just asking the dealer and they painted and mailed it to me.

My dealer took care of it under warranty, says it's a common problem. My dealer was great. One look and the service manager said to replace the black trim piece that the cover clips into.

Well this is probably going to come across as me being a dick, but I'm shocked this topic has gone 2 pages and 43 posts now. This part is akin to a BMW roundel center cap popping off, going to BMW and getting another, and then popping it back in.

End of story.

Honestly, I felt the same way. At this point I figure that anyone with a drivers license should know what a tow hook thread hole looks like..
