bootmod3 self tune

Anyone had experience tuning their own car with bootmod3??

I am used to mapping diesel and used Cobb on my GTR. BM3 seems even easier.

If you buy OTS maps can you tweak them of must you start from scratch with your original file.

I can see some fun on the horizon

If I move forward with this, 99% sure I will. I will document how I get one etc.

I'm using BM3 and so far it's been great. Almost 2500 miles with the tune. The additional config items allow for minor improvements.

I've always been concerned about warranty issues with a tune. Is this not something to be concerned with?

That risk will always exist. You can be proactive and flash it back to stock before services, but that won't guarantee anything. Normally speaking, it "should" be ok.

I am assuming BMW has a way of seeing a trail of the tunes. Has anyone experienced issues with that?

I map / flash cars as a hobby. Flash any ecu and if they want to find it (warranty work) you are stuffed. I dont really care, if it fails I will just fix it.

Bootmod is way bigger then I thought. Impressive following.

Bootmod3 Stage 1 file flashed the other day, WOW awesome. Very happy for a stage 1. Easy 600+ bhp

Logging tool is fantastic as is the way you can customise the file settings with regards to start up, burble, VAMX, OPF etc etc.

Looking forward to tuning it myself once I figure everything out.

Glad you like it! Stage 1 should be around 660 bhp.

Odds of you popping a motor with a commercial tune is very unlikely but if you do, BMW will definitely find it and then you're out, what, $25k for a new motor?

Popping a motor won’t happen with this bm3 tune. They went super conservative with their standard maps.

I believe that but then there are the freak intrinsic failures on a new engine that might break independent of a tune but if you've got a tune, you're paying the bill. Not trying to fearmonger but these are expensive lumps of metal if you get to pay the tab.

Yes, you are right. In the end, it’s a personal decision. I know that if something happens I will buy a new engine. If you want to play safe, do not make any mods at all. But then why buying a high performance M car in the first place?

I tuned my Golf R, Cummins, my Harleys, all under warranty. I had a GTI that was tuned and the valve spring broke @ 25K miles. They replaced the whole head no questions asked. The juice is worth the squeeze.

Agree.

Will do some logging on stage 1 then think I will bang on stage 2 and log again. If stage one is conservative, and I always run 99 ron stage 2 might work fine until I get de-catted DPs.

If it pulls timing, I will revert back to stage 1
