Reset Adaptations

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
In the MHD app you have the option to reset a number of adaption parameters like:

Intake mass flow
Octane rating
Vanos
Knock regulation
Throttle
Fuel high pressure system
Etc.

What is the logic/benefit of resetting these adaptations? (Since I am going bored out of my mind recuperating from shoulder surgery I was wondering if there was something I could break on my car.)

Back in the day I remember folks really advocating for resetting the throttle adaptations to improve performance.

You generally only reset adaptations after repairs to the affected systems. There are all very specific systems. Generally you do ALL with crank shaft sensor, all without crankshaft sensor, or just mixture adaptations. Each having their own reason for choosing

Sounds like it's not something to monkey with unless you have a specific repair. I wonder why MHD would include them. Put another way, can you fuck things up by messing with them?

Give it a try and report back. Thank you in advance for sharing your knowledge.

After the catted AA DP install, was getting misfire dtc/drivetrain malfunction on screen, tuner wanted me to clear these adaptation's,

Lambda sensors
Lambda regulation
Knock regulation
Octane rating
Intake mass flow

Did nothing to fix the problem.

The root cause was on pre-cat lambda probe that controls the fuel. Replaced it afterwards.

Also, PSA: stick with stock plug gap (unless the car is making crazy amount of power)

Disturbing you had an issue after just swapping out a downpipe…do think the install broke the pre-cat lambda probe?

Yep, that *is* what happened after realizing the problem only happens soon after the car goes into closed loop. Apparently they are (very) sensitive, at the sensor. Hopefully don't repeat this on catless DP install.

You going to run yours with E85?

Initially yes, since i run E85 from the pump (Sheetz) on the other 2 cars with custom tunes up to 90% summer blend with upgraded fuel pumps and injectors.

For B58, because B58 responds so well to Ethanol, i plan to run E85.

Seeing how well B58 runs with OTS stage 1 E85 tune, i want to try.

But i'm eager to upgrade the hpfp to the Dorch hpfp, stage 1 (or stage 2) first. Decided for the Dorch given the general PnP nature of the installation.

But first get the catless AA DP fitted with the ECA with proper fuel line upgrades. Then play with E30 tune a bit to get feel of it with B58.
