I've only seen 2 features advertised for 07/20 - driving mode and windows. My assistant will not switch to adaptive, but will switch between the others, including individual and plus settings. The window feature did not work. It will ask which window, but then say that it cannot do it via voice...just like all of the climate control settings.

The other features I use occasionally are switching ambient light colors, navigation, weather, settings menus, and switching to carplay or spotify.
No climate controls via the assistant after the upgrade?

My 2nd posting after visiting the Dealer on my 2020 M40i service last week. They replaced the faded spoiler (good!). However, they seemed confused on what was/was not available for the latest iDrive release and Android Auto and suggested I talk with BMW Genius. I told them I did a month before and then went back to re-investigate only to come back and to say that the upgrade is not available yet.

Not clear on why there is so much confusion within the dealers, Genius and the blogs?!

20-07 is out. It should be available by now at all dealers. There is little info on the dealer side regarding android auto though.

The fact is that all idrive 7 vehicles have android compatibility once programmed to 20-07

When the software is updated do we lose setting such as short cut buttons and presets, HUD alignment, emergency braking etc?

When I had the 19-11 update done, I did not lose settings, so I don't think you will with this update either. I did lose all the coding that I had done.

Is there a changelog with all the updates in the 20/07 iLevel-update?

I just had my car (10/19 build) updated to the 20-07 version today at a UK dealer, but it wasn't straight forward, it went something like this:

Booked my car in last week.

Dropped car off explaining Spotify keeps logging out on connected drive (was happening, really annoying)

Had the car for several hours, said nothing wrong and to "keep an eye on it" - I refused, they said to contact BMW UK Connected Drive team.

Called them, explained the situation, they called the dealer - they said there is an update to my car but its not the July update and that's available in October?????

I email the dealer, reply saying waiting for BMW to authorise.

Phonecall confirming they are doing an update (no idea if it's the July update at this point)

Pick the car up and YES AA is there!!

I have no idea why there is so much confusion around this from BMW, its a terrible customer experience!!!!!

You should not lose main settings. Settings that I had to go in a redo were my safety systems. Like lane departure warning and all that stuff.

Had my update done today on my 2020 X3. Android auto is there and I can now get Apple Map directions on the HUD. I did have to update some settings...door lock commands disappeared (don't auto lock doors, unlock all doors with comfort access)...those went back to default. I didn't make any changes to safety systems so can't comment on whether those went back to default. Other oddity was that my driver profile settings were lost. I had to readjust mirrors and seat position and then re-save settings again.

Custom assigned shortcut button settings were not touched. Overall, just a few things that took 5-10 min to re-adjust.

It's just so frustrating that I have almost all dealers around me totally unaware of any software update capabilities of my 20 X3 model.

It doesn't come with the remote software update option in the menu and I had asked dealers multiple times in the last six month to manually perform whatever update they have in their database. I even gave them the TSB. And still they were treating me like a fool and kicking me around and making up gibberish.

So far I can't even have the 19/11 update and never enabled the remote 360 view. The iDrive is so buggy it constantly loses bluetooth connections. I really don't wanna stand this anymore.

And BMWNA is making this even worse by not publicizing the technical differences between 20 models (if any) and holding back software info availabilities from their already dumb dealers.

Can anyone recommend a BMW dealer in the DMV area that actually knows a little about their systems?

What happens when you book an appointment and bring it in? Do they tell you nothing is wrong and send you on your way? Or are you inquiring via telephone?

They simply don't book any appointment for me because they don't think such a service ever exist.

If I ask to talk to someone I just got kicked around between "geniuses" and service department, and the only thing they know is "If your car doesn't have it, it won't have it."

And no they don't even bother to ask me if I have idrive 7, digital-cockpit or whatever features necessary to determine that facts.

That's a horrible experience. I've always booked appointments through the dealer website with 'call me' unchecked. I've rarely been called over the years before showing up in the service bay for an appointment. I would do something similar at the next closest dealer to you.

Thanks, this could be helpful. Where did you find this?

I'll probably have to gather every description or screenshot from BMWNA that shows there should at least be one upgrade from my pre 19/11 idrive.

But even with this it could still be hard. Last time I provide them with the TSB number and a screenshot of the TSB notice and they very politely noted it down and convinced me a specialist who knew everything about it will come to me shortly. Well it never did.

There's two software updates after 19-11. 20-03 and 20-07. 20-03 was just a normal software update, very minor improvements for things like personal assistant and improvisations to some of the safety systems like active driving assistance and active cruise control. 20-07 is what brings Android Auto functionality and cloud based navigation.

Idrive 6 is just idrive 6. Nothing special or anything between vehicles. Idrive 7 is the first OS to be kind of split between different vehicles like this and have different functionality. G01 LCI may bring full SP18 functionality in 2022 but we will see.

Can anyone confirm if the update is available in Canada yet before I head to the dealer to try and get this done?

This may be a stupid question but will the 2021 x3 M40i have the latest software updated at the factory? I seem to remember years ago when I custom built a 328i they had to do a software update at the dealership when I picked it up.
