Fully Loaded 28i or Kinda Lame 35i?

Hey all,

I'm currently looking at picking up a nice CPO 2017. There are good deals on em these days with the GO1 out.

I've been looking at two in particular:

2017 xDrive28i with M Sport, Premium, Tech, Drivers Assistance, Drivers Assistance Plus, Nav, Cold Weather packages

2017 xDrive35i with Drivers Assistance, Drivers Assistance Plus, Cold Weather package

Which would you get, with mileage and price are the same?

I'm coming from a 2014 335i w/ 6 speed. So obviously I know and love the power of the xDrive335i, and it sounds amazing as always. But I'd also be missing the HUD and Sport seats from my current 335i.

The xDrive28i is fully loaded, and overall looks better than the 35i. I'm thinking that I'm willing to give up a little in terms of power (and if I really miss it, just throw on a tune) because let's face it, it's an SUV. Not going to win any races or carve many corners in either model.

It sounds like you want the 28i. Go for it.

the regular seats in F25`s are less than impressive- get a car with sport seats.

power: the 4 banger turbo runs along well- I opted for 2012 year car with n/a I-6 motor and find it adequate, 4 cyl motors are comparable with tad better fuel efficiency. and as you mentioned, these are SUV`s so are we really planning to push these relatively higher/heavier vehicles hard thru the twisties?..... not me. I drove E39`s with 5 spd manual and M-Sport suspensions for 15 years, I was ready for bit more comfy ride of the F25.

hard to believe that a 2017 X3 35i and 2017 X3 28i with similar mileage are the same price, the 35i should be more expensive unless it has some problem(s).

Whats the rush? If not in a rush, wait for a 35i to come along that has the features you want. Or get the 28i if you are in a rush and it has the features you want.

I had a similar dilemma, ended up with the 28i. Tuned after a while because I couldn't help myself, but definitely happy with the choice. Everyone's different but all I really missed was the torque of the 6-cylinder, and a tune mostly took care of that.

Thanks everyone. I did end up going with the 28i. I figure if the power/mod bug bites me I'll probably save up for an older M3, maybe an E46 or E90.

Yeah, the 28i was actually a little more expensive than the 35i before I negotiated it down. I've seen a few 35i's go for around the price that I was seeing these at so I don't think it was unreasonable. The 35i was being used as a demo car so maybe that had something to do with it.

I was tempted to wait for a nice 35i but in my area that would have taken a while. It's all either 28i's or 35i's with no options.

Weird, when we were shopping we had the opposite experience, only way to get the options was with the 35i which we really did not need. I mean it's nice to have but she's thirsty around town.

Congratulations! And funny, as I just did the same thing last Wednesday. Fully loaded 28I vs minimally equipped 35i. Was a hard decision coming from n54 335 and n55 535, but I love it so far.

I'll leave this right here for when you want more power...

I got my old 335i coupe back that my brother had been driving for a few years, definitely nice to have something fast when I'm missing the speed. Also much more mods available much more cheaply.

As someone who is a noob too all this kind of stuff, how easy is this to do on your own? Is it easy to mess something up trying on my own without any experience? Is it just plug and play? And how long am I looking for the process from start to finish? And do I need to purchase any new parts such as a down pipe or anything? I'm super intrigued, I just don't want to mess anything up on my vehicle by accident.

Plug-n-play, no additional equipment needed, maybe 30 minutes start to finish. Intake/charge pipes/downpipe/etc will enhance it, but not required. Hard to mess up, just follow the directions.

Given the best of all worlds, I'd like both. I had a 4 banger twin on my Mini and it had quite a kick to it. Tried the same on the Countryman version and I was less than impressed. I quite like the kick on the six banger twin turbo of the F25. With the addition of remote starting, back-up camera, and blind spot notification, I'm quite happy. I tried the apple interface on a recent loaner and frankly that was enough experience with that. Blue tooth allows me to do all I want from my phone. I really like the BMW guidance system, office, and remote car interface as well.

Yep different strokes for different folks. I didn't think the base seats were bad, and definitely not as bad as some people say they are. But I love the way the sport seats hug you a bit more.

Anyway, I've been driving the new X3 a ton this week and so far don't regret a thing.

The engine definitely isn't as nice as my old N55 but funnily enough, I'm faster in the X3, since my 335i was stick and the new 8 speed can shift faster than I ever could.

I would've gone for the fully loaded 28i as well.
The sport seats and steering wheel alone would drive me to that choice.
That steering wheel is made with the most premium leather.
How the seat hugs you and the steering wheel feel is all the difference that makes the car more enjoyable. All the other techs is just for convenience.

Congrats on the new addition!
