Got mine back from the dealer on Friday. They found a piece of metal road debris stuck in the front passenger side fender liner that was able to contact the spring. They claimed this was the issue. They sent me a video of it (not sure if all dealers do that now) and I immediately said there's no way that was causing my problem. SA called to let me know it was fixed. I asked him to make sure they drove it afterwards to make sure that was really the culprit. He assured me they had.

Of course this was not the problem. Clunk still there just like it was before. Had to set up another appointment. First available is August 15th! This time I am going to drop it off the night before and go up there the morning of the appointment and request the foreman go for a ride with me to hear/feel it. It's a lot more pronounced on the first drive after letting it sit overnight. Seems it gets better as something heats up - maybe brakes? Not sure how I'd feel that so much in the steering wheel, though.

What a hassle.

Im waiting for my SA to call me when they have a loaner to give me. I'm not convinced its anything with the suspension. My 2C is that it is axle or steering related.

The fact it cant be felt in the steering wheel is leading me towards this is well. I did some tests yesterday by pushing hard into the steering wheel and then pulling back hard as well. It felt like when I pulled back, the clunks got worse.

I haven't had a chance to take mine back in yet. Without going into details, I had a not-so-good post repair experience with the SA and am determining my next steps. I hope you get it figured it and please keep me posted.

Got a call from SA today and they can't find anything wrong. Tempted to just sell it and move on... At this point, I'm not sure if they are just lazy or incompetent.

I'd take it to another dealer first. I have learned not all techs are created equal, and if your car comes in once, they will try to give it to the same tech as the previous time... I have had good luck by having a second opinion at another dealer.

+1

I took mine to dealership let them drive it as well for 10 miles, and they found no issues said everything was fine
They also did brake fluid flush although my brake still 5mm and this has helped A LOT but after 3 days it came back again.

No issues, car feels good or better than before.

A "clunk at low speeds" can also be a sign of a differential or transfer box going bad.

I get the same thing. Also worried about the diff. They just did a differential fluid service and looked at it, nothing wrong per them. Some mornings after letting it sit overnight is worse than others... Pads only have 4-5mm left, we'll see after I switch them out, but it doesn't make sense that that's what causing the noise -_-

It's weird transfer case or differential going bad, because I haven't done a single Launch Control since 10/2020 when I set the 10.64 record lol.
I've seen others driveshaft / differential in-tack with more than 50 dyno runs and Launches than mine in shorter period of time.
For ex. @JairoMVP on IG has the fastest 2022 X3M LCI Tune Only in the world 700whp on tap and 10.61 1/4 mile full weight with a 325lb driver

Taking mine in for different fluid service next week as well
Dealer didnt want to replace my pads either 5mm left in the rear

I know it’s off topic but jfc that’s just ridiculous.

I had the same issue and got fixed by replacing a loose/faulty bolt.
I believe this is the same issue
I took one of the mechanics at my local dealership for a short drive and he said it's not a common issue. After further inspection another guy (not the technician) said it's a bolt somewhere around the diff (probably shaft/diff connection...) and it was replaced under warranty.

Just to be on the same page, the sound was most audible and easy replicated while driving in 2nd at ~2k rpm and by just slightly pressing and releasing the throttle quickly.

I am the OP of this thread and I took this advice. Today I traded in my 2020 X3M for a 2022 X3M. In my case it was nice to get all the options I wish I would have picked when I got the first one.

Now to learn iDrive 7.. Seems like they really overcomplicated things. I was so used to the previous iterations from my E92 M3 and F87 M2...

At least now the clunk is someone else's problem.

Hope you guys figure it out. My solution was quite pricey!

Showed this to my SA and had him drive in mine, i put my rear seats down and its repeatable at low rpm in 1st gear he was able to hear it himself and are working on it now.

Do you have the paperwork notes?

gfisher99 congrats

I see BG flag, What dealership did you take it to?

I am having a knock and like binding from rear right only when turning sharp right at low speed and accelerating. Guy in UK just had his whole rear diff replaced with exact same symptoms as me.

I am also getting a soft wine from the rear diff as well now. Car is booked in for Thursday to the dealer... slowing down the turbo upgrade plans.
