Still happy with 265/40/21; 295/35/21 on your M40i? No rubbing or AWD issues?

EDIT: Are you 265/40/21 up front or 255/40/21?

Did you end replacing on your M40i?

255/295. Best setup. Tires have lasted much longer than my stock M40i run flats as well and I drive pretty hard. No issues. Probably need to replace next year but at that point I'll have about 20k miles on these. My runflats were worn to about 2mm rear and front outer edge was worn to about 1-2mm as well, middle about 5mm. These ones still have more than that all the way around and are more comfortable with more grip. Win win in all aspects.

No problem running the 295 out back on your 9.5 rear 718Ms? 10" rim is noted to be the minimum

Great thread! I'm planning on getting this set up in All Seasons next month since the temps are going to dip. I would keep my stock Contis for lease return.

I have a few questions..

1. If I take my vehicle in for an oil change or small service at the dealership, would the dealership refuse service?
2. For Rears, Why 35 ration rather than 40?

Appreciate the help!

1 = No
2 = because overall tire diameter is dependent on width and aspect ratio. The wider you go, the lower aspect ration required to maintain overall tire diameter.

Which Michelin is better the Merc Version or BMW Star version? Can I ditch my 12 mm spacers if I do this upgrade? Thanks!

I don't think you will ever notice the difference in Merc or BMW.

You can get rid of the spacers, but I wouldn't. It's not that much of a difference.

I kinda regret not getting the 265/295 tires, they look so awesome! Oh well, once I wear these tires out I will step up to the larger ones!

Has anyone of you guys have any drivetrain or launch issues with this tire swap?

I've read the entire thread and there's only been 1 negative comment about this size swap so I'm definitely planning of this combo once the temps here in Portland start to dip down to the low 50's.

I'd guess out of that massive thread if only one person posted something negative then that you will be fine driving the car spirited and launching it.
Just make sure you buy some good tires and have them installed at a reputable tire shop and have them balance them and you will be fine.

I too have been following the whole thread. I now need some help...

Is the gain in comfort coming from a tire brand/spec change or from a size change?

I have PS4S in stock sizes now:

1) do I want to change out to a High-Performance All-Season (like the PS4 AS) in stock sizes

OR

2) do I want to keep the PS4S model tire but go to the 265/295 setup to gain the extra 'cushioning' or change in ride quality?

Thoughts?

I think I am paranoid but I need to be sure I am not damaging my transfer case.

I recently got Conti DWS Plus wheels and they are at 265/40/21 and 295/35/21. When my X4M was on stock tires, I didn't pay attention to the sounds the car was making and I have nothing to compare it to.

There is a low humming noise as if an air pump is active near the front wheels. The sound is active for a few seconds and it cuts off. Then, it happens again based on if I am on the accelerator or not. It's not loud but enough for me to notice. It only happens when I am off the gas and coasting at low speeds. I assumed it was the adaptive damper making the noise but I am not sure now.

Can someone with stock wheels verify they experience the same noise or can someone educate me on what this may be? It doesn't sound like tires are rubbing against the struts; I have no spacers and stock shocks.

The last thing I want to do is damage the new car with the new tires. Anyway, I would appreciate any guidance with my concerns.

Right, that was a typo. I meant 265/40/21 and 295/35/21.

haha ok. I wouldn't read too much into it. as long as the sizes are correct I don't see much of an issue.

There's no issue with different wall height 40vs 35?

That's not sidewall height, but aspect ratio. The sidewall height depends on the width and aspect ratio.

Gotcha! Thank you for the lesson! I love learning new stuff here. I pulled the trigger and got the 295s installed. Like em! Still wondering if I should leave it as is or install the 15mm spacers I had bought before deciding to take the plunge. Any thoughts on that?
