Overhead Driver's Console Squeaking/Rattling

My new 2022's overhead console that has the front reading lights squeaks and rattles when going over minor bumps in the road. The rest of the car seems pretty solid (although my wife's 2019 CRV still beats any of my past BMW's in that department). I know that this overhead console is the culprit because if I press on it while going over bumps, there is no noise. I suppose I can live with it but if I can fix it, I'd love to give it a shot.

Any suggestions on getting rid of this rattle? I was thinking of pulling it down and lubricating plastic parts that are in contact but hesitant to DIY this if someone else has had an easier fix.

I ended up driving around with a co-worker at lunch and he listed to try and pinpoint my sunroof rattle. He narrowed it down to a loose screw and the washer just bouncing around. Took 7-8 full turns to tighten it down and was likely like that from the factory.

Not the sunroof rattle for me as I've read about here on the forum. I've confirmed that it's the plastic from the overhead console where the SOS button is located.

I had the same exact thing on my 2021 X4MC. I took it to the dealer, explained the issue and they fixed it. The SA said they took it apart, tightened a few areas and added insulation. Not sure I believe all of that but I can report the mind-numbing creaking/rattling is gone. For now.

Thanks! I'll ask them to take a look at my 1200 mile break in service.

Same here. Popped it out and popped it back in without really doing anything and it seems to have resolved, at least temporarily. :

Yeah, I was about to lemon law as two attempts by the dealer failed. There are four or eight Torx (iirc) bolts securing the sunroof to the sliding/tilt mechanism...one of the bolts were loose on the front driver's side...such a simple fix and my cabin is quiet!

I am having the same problem with my 2022 X4M. Does the overhead console just pop out with a pry tool?

You popped it out yourself? When I took it to the dealer, they said that they get a lot of complaints for the rattle and can look to fix it but no guarantees. They also said that I would have to leave the car overnight and that they would have to take the entire liner and plastic off. I wasn't sure if the SA really knew what he was talking about but I decided to hold off for now.

Mine did this for a while and then magically stopped. Hope you get so lucky!

Yep, the little plastic grill in front (facing the passengers, not the windshield) pops out revealing a couple torx screws. Once you remove those, it's just a matter of prying down, releasing the clips that hold the module in the headliner. Simple job, really.
