Savage Geese LCI X3MC Review: Filthy Animal

Disclaimer: haven't watched it yet, but he wasn't the biggest fan of the non-comp pre-LCI. Curious to see the outcome.

They love it because the car has character and they find it to be raw in a good way. Since the car is on snow tires, they cannot quite judge the ride comfort but going back to their pre-LCI review, they say the ride is probably too harsh for most people to use it as a daily/kid hauler. I only wish some of these reviewers get the base X3M with the 20 inch wheels to test, especially curious to see how the LCI tune in the base setup would change the ride...

They also got a few details wrong, but overall a decent review, especially given their reaction to the pre-LCI car they tested.

I understand that this is a subjective topic and everyone has a different perspective or expectation, but I do not feel the suspension is too harsh at all (nor the seats flimsy…). However, I haven't been a rear seat passenger in my own car

I find it funny how much he likes it vs when he reviewed the pre-lci... Because its essentially the same car with a makeover

Their review of the Pre-LCI was one of the reasons I started to "home in" on an X3MC. Timing of my 440i trade in with a decent equity dropped me into an LCI .. most definitely the icing on an already delicious cake that is if you like cake and icing

I drove an X4M pretty hard at a BMW event and was pleasantly surprised. The steering didn't feel as naturally weighted or have the pure road feel of the Macan, but otherwise the steering is still stiff/quick and the car is a beast. Definitely one of the best BMWs in production today.

A loaded X5 40i M Sport comes in around a similar MSRP as an X3M (non-Competition model). I'd pick the X3M any day of the week and think more buyers should do the same. Such a massive difference in the driving character between both cars.

Good summary. Just watched the review. Fun to watch them hoon it in the snow. I missed the chance to do so with mine. The roads are clearing up around Charlotte.

This is an embodiment of how sensitive the F97 is to tires in terms of the ride quality…they went from hating the car to loving every second of it simply from what amounts to a tire change. And that echos exactly how I feel about the car…even on MSS springs, the car is more enjoyable on snow tires vs. summer performance tires, simply because it's more livable even at the expense of handling at 9/10s and above.

Thanks for sharing, jzmundy - enjoyed watching it.

12:03-12:11 - "this is one of the most special BMWs on the market, and it's sad that it's an SUV, but it (pause), I'm gonna leave it at that..." Their final thoughts run 12:21 - 13:52.

The slight improvement in the suspension and comfort settings in the LCI might even bring summer tires into the acceptable ride quality. I'm OK with my 2020 base mode (20"s) and PS4 SUV tires but still wish the comfort setting was a bit more so....

In all, a fair, good review of the X3M. Not a car or SUV for everyone but certainly a fun ride and good value for the performance and features you get.

He liked the non-Comp pre-LCI, but hated the very specific stiffly-tuned suspension. Aside from that he was about as enthusiastic as he gets about modern BMWs.

My beef with the pre-LCI suspension wasn't that it was uncomfortable, it's that over certain bumps or patches of pavement, I could lose grip on the steering wheel it was so freaking jarring, even in Comfort. My F90 is a bit stiff too, but it isn't as high off the ground and never gives me issues except over the worst pavement.

I haven't driven the LCI F97/8, but it seems it's slightly improved. I know it's greatly improved in the F90 LCI, so at least we know they *can* tune it properly if they want.

My wife prefers to drive our 2020 non-comp. She never complains about the ride, and actually dislikes our X7 as the driver. I think that’s because of DHP though. Anyhow, There are a few dips on i95 that lift the kids out of their seats, in any suspension setting.

My wife has an X5 4.0 Msport, and I was just thinking this would be a good replacement for it. I think the LCI changes make it look much better.

However, she already thinks the X5 is a little bit small, and it's plenty fast for her. If it was up to me, I'd get her one of these.
