Michelin Pilot Sport 4 All Season tires impressions

Got a set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4 All season tires fitted to my X3M last week (in stock sizes).

So far, seems like a big upgrade over the Conti's that the car came with. I notice no reduction in dry handling performance and wet traction is excellent. Tire Rack tested the tires in light snow, and they outperformed "best in class" AS tires by a wide margin:

https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests...y.jsp?ttid=257

Initially the ride was a bit harsh with 33 psi front, 38 psi rear, but after reducing to 32 psi front, 35 psi rear the ride seems much better.

Can't wait til my contis wear out, this is what I will likely be going to. You go with stock sizes or what?

Thank you for posting your thoughts. Ride was harsher than the OEM Contis? What about noise on the highway?

Ride is better than the Conti's at equal PSI -- meaning I had the Conti's at 32/35, but the installer did 33/38 on the Michelin's initially since that is what the recommended values on driver's side door are. Once I took some air out, they for sure ride better than the Conti's.

Haven't had a chance to test much on the HW yet with window down due to lots of rain over the last 4 days. Will report back once things dry out.

getting them closer to Oct/November, had them on two previous cars and liked them (considering compromise of AS)
i hope my bmw dealer will be able to put them on with a proper balancing.

Keep in mind that the AS 4 is a brand new model, previously Michelin had a AS 3 and AS 3+ which were likely similar, but not the same. These appear, based on the Tire Rack test, to do better in the snow. I've seen some initial reports from SQ5 and Telsa owners on these tires and so far all positive things to say.

Not sure I get All Seasons?

They don't do anything well.

I've got the summer MPS4S's and they are epic, a big upgrade over the stock Contis.

But why sacrifice performance for all year average performance? For me it would make more sense to have winters and swap over when the conditions get bad?

I can understand how some people prefer not to be inconvenienced or pay for a whole set of winter and summer tire sets. I get it. We are all inherently somewhat lazy and need to allocate scarce resources were we see fit. We have to understand some of us do like to spend those resources to swap tires depending on seasons to get the most grip and fun out of our vehicles, while others rather spend those same resources on other activities. We are all different and unique and differences need to be embraced so long as nobody is limiting your freedom. I would think nobody who prefer all-season tires is limiting your freedom to change your tires/wheels given the season? Live and let live.

I suppose it comes down to where you live. We get snow and cold for months in the winter so it makes sense for me to have dedicated winter tires. People in more moderate climates that get small amounts of snow and cold in the winter can probably manage on all season tires and if you aren't tracking your SUV it's debatable how much anyone will miss the grip of the dedicated performance tires in a commuting scenario.

If these had been out when I got my X3MC I may have gone this route.

Instead I got a dedicated winter wheel/tire set. In Long Island NY we used to get snow but we have hardly gotten anything over the past 10 years.

Most of my desire to get winters was because the cold performance on Contis is terrible. I started to lose grip below 50 degrees.

Now that New York is considered a sub tropic climate zone.....buying a dedicated set of winters seems like it wasn’t a great choice. But we know what happens had I not gotten a winter set....blizzard after blizzard...

I just had these installed on my X3MC, ditching the stock Continentals after 6800 miles. These tires are terrific. They take just enough of the edge off the ride, making the vehicle more compliant on rough roads in town. It is still firm, but I'd say more comparable to other M cars/sports cars I've owned or driven and less punishing than it was on the Contis. The ride has settled down and is less jittery/bouncy, highway speeds are smoother on all surfaces. The tires are a tad bit quieter at low speeds but are comparable in noise at highway speeds to the Contis. The steering weight is a tad lighter but the feedback through the wheel has improved dramatically from the Continentals across all steering modes. No noticeable change in handling or corners in everyday driving, but my car won't see the track. Definitely recommend for anyone looking for ride quality improvements.

Why does tire rack say it's not for our vehicle?

I got this tires couple months with 32pai front 38 rear and i can say they are best all season tires, last month we have really bad winter i Chicago around 1 feet of snow and traction good, breaking good in heavy snow, and they are more comfortable in daily use... really recommend!

Was the Costco price cheaper than Tire Rack?

I got them. It will fix your rough ride.... first good point
I did install 265/40/21 all around... so now I have 45,000 miles Michelin Warranty ahahha
I sold my brand new used Conti for $500 and that that set of Michelin for $1,300 with discount tire protection - $500...What else can you ask for?
Again, it will fix your rough ride by 50% minimum
