2017 X3 Headlights upgrade options

We are looking into buying an used 2017 X3, but the vast majority of car that we like / low miles come with halogens....

Are there aftermarket LED / HID solutions that are simple to install and doesn't require a lot of retrofitting? I am familiar with coding so there is at least that.

Expand your search and get the Lighting Package.

I made that mistake when I got my F31.....fortunately I spent $500 on a set of Depo aftermarkets and upgraded.

BMW's are the kind of car you buy with the options you want installed from the factory. Keep looking... It took me 6 months to find mine.

I think the lighting package is only those random lights inside the cabin and door handles.

Every VIN that I decoded comes with that package, but the headlights are clearly reflectors. I think the Package name is XENON, i did the VIN of a X4 which the halo / projectors and it showed that.

I’m not referring to the interior Ambient Lighting package.

The exterior lighting package is usually a$1900 option.

Upgrades halogen to bi-xenon or to LED adaptive.

You will never get the quality/integration (auto-leveling) aftermarket - keep looking....

And yes, this was a mandatory option when I was looking, no more halogens ever...

Yupp. Halogen to Xenon is one of the few upgrades that are not possible or is highly cost prohibitive to the point that it's cheaper to change car.

I'm in the same boat, every time I find a low mileage vehicle with all the options I want, it has halogen. I definitely want to get Xenon that were installed from the factory and not try to retrofit anything. I use a VIN decoder and just make sure it has the Xenon option. I'm sure eventually, if I look long enough, I'll find what I'm looking for, I will not settle for anything less. Good luck with your hunt.

I ended waiting and finally got a 17 CPO with HIDs.

Wouldnt want it any other way, they look fantastic. I might change the bulbs for some Osrams 5k later, but so far so good.

New to the boards - currently looking at 2017 X3s and every one that has the majority of the features I want, they all lack the lighting package. What did you end up getting?

There is no inexpensive option for updating lighting options for the X3. I researched updating mine when I realized how bad the halogens were. My ultimate solution was to buy aftermarket H7 bulbs. I bought Hella H7, 100 watt bulbs that provided an acceptable solution. Not perfect, but provides adequate lighting without coding. The problem with LEDs is the reflector housing is not designed for them and the lighting pattern gets messed up. Check your local laws before using the 100 watt bulbs. They may not be legal in your area.

If you're looking primarily at the 2017 28i/28d models, the halogens would have been the standard equipment. The car would have to have been ordered with the ZLP Lighting Package to receive upgraded lighting.

The 35i models came standard with xenon HID lamps and adaptive light control. The lighting package on those cars changes it to adaptive LED with automatic high beams.

ZLP Lighting Package (low)

S524A Adaptive light control
Also adds rear LED tail lights

ZLP Lighting Package (high)
S552A - Adaptive Full LED Lights
Also adds rear LED tail lights
