Windshield tint

Hi,

I did a search but couldn’t find a definite answer. My 2023 x3 m40 comes with factory tinted winshield and front row windows (70% transparency - Fuyao brand). I was considering getting ceramic tint for heat and uv rejection, but does the factory tint already serve this purpose?

None of the factory glass provides heat and uv rejection. I used Xpel Ceramic tint on all the glass, money well spent when I have to get in after the X3 sitting in the sun all day.

I am looking to do the same thing
Did you do it on all windows? Rear doors and back, even though they are tinted?
How much did that cost you ?

Same here. Xpel ceramic on every window. 70% on windshield, 20% on front windows and whatever the shop suggested on the back to make it overall match 20% on the front.

Does wonders for heat rejection. You'll never go back.

I have it done in all my cars- 'clear' on the windshield and tinted all the rest. Primary reason is heat rejection. Does a great job. Previously used Crystalline ceramic but on my i4 just got it done with LLumar Ceramic Nano film.

I also had Xpel tint the windshield with their most premium ceramic clear film. They also balanced the side and rear with different degrees of color for the front doors to even out the overall appearance with the rear doors. The windshield tint is noticeably more comforting, even as it remains essentially invisible. Will always do this again for all future cars.

I'm in ny and used tintmax.https://www.tintmaxautomotive.com/book-online
The cost is going to be different depending where you are and what film is being used.. but for uv and heat protection it's best to used ceramic tint. And the stock oem glass is just color tint and provides no heat or uv.

I have couple guys in Brooklyn. Just want to know a rough estimate what does the shop charges for that?

+1 on not having factory tint on the windshield, full windshield tint is illegal in most states so it won't come that way from factoory https://tintwiz.com/window-tint-laws-by-state

That being said I just had the front windshield done, 70% for $189. You really can't tell.

Clean car is tinted, dirty is pre-tint lol.

I’m doing ceramic soon Florida heat is a killer. Plan to do 2% on the rears 5% on the fronts and 30% on the windshield

I think I did a 15% rear, 20% front before and it was just too hard to see out at night, particularly backing up. The large diminishing return on heat rejection isn't worth the loss of visible light to me.

Do you have rain sensing windshield or HUD?

Regarding UV, i thought all every glass on our BMWs had UV blocking. My transition prescription glasses never change color when I am in the car, I have to lower the window and point it out so it can get dark.

Also while you may avoid getting ticketed, state inspection like NY will check and fail if you have tint on front doors or windshield more than 70%.

I just wish we can still get fading top portion of windshield tint, not sure why car makers stopped doing that.

I enjoy it for our vehicles, but some of the broken down trash driving around Florida dictates otherwise lol.

Up here in the panhandle they are cracking down on busted cars, and all the squated trucks during spring break they handed out like 150 tickets a night
