I'm surprised you claim it that much. In the years I've been driving in both CA and here in NE, I have yet to get a puncture from potholes.
When 2 of the top 10 worst highways crisscross in your state, you'd want some protection too!

NH is a paradise for driving compared to roads in the tri-state area (even despite the snow)!

I’m not away to get into an argument over this as it’s been discussed at length before and I see it from both sides, but the point is using none BMW approved tyres (in the UK!) that’s NOT been tested on the vehicle by BMW can or may cause an issue with the xdrive system and as such BMW may not validate a claim….call it scaremongering for financial gain by the dealerships or BMW corporate, I don’t care….but I have seen legitimate BMW emails from customer services stating the above…..so why would I want to risk it?

I choose to buy BMW approved tyres for that reason, for as long as my car is in warranty. It doesn’t mean I have to purchase my tyres from BMW, because I don’t but the tyres I do buy are BMW approved for my car…..when my warranty has expired I’ll do whatever I want but until then it’s BMW approved tyres/parts all the way……as you have figured out by now, we do things differently over here in the UK…..most of which is a load of bollocks but it is how it is :-)

I've seen no reports on this or other BMW (or other OEM brand) forums over many years of XDrive/AWD issues being attributed to the tire brand and a LOT of tire brand switching goes on which forum history will demonstrate. Who buys tyres from BMW dealers ?

It’s not about where tyres are purchased.

The * tyres can be sourced from many discount tyre retailers in the UK. The tyres are typically around the same price as other premium brands, sometimes less.

I have replaced many * marked tyres and non have been purchased from BMW.

That is good to hear. Perhaps the source of the warning is hoping to skim some business once they have you present. Glad you can satisfy your concern without paying extra.

The source of the warning is BMW UK via remote communications, so not a “you present” situation.

The message is as Keefy described, so I can pay £300 for a * OEM tyre or £400 for a non * tyre. They really had to twist my arm lol, and why risk xdrive warranty issues ?

I tend to use Blackcircles for sourcing * rated BMW approved tyres or sometimes find a local tyre shop that will price match them, but I'll never buy from BMW directly, simply down to cost.

Same here, typically Blackcircles, fitted at ATS, or Costco, if they can get * size and an offer.

At present, OE front Alenza 21” * is £278 at Costco without a deal.

Last time I put tyres on our other car, Costco was significantly cheaper on Michelin than anywhere else I tried. Just need to check their policy on front tyre replacement if back are worn.

Off topic, but I also recently hired a car via Costco and it was a lot cheaper than anywhere else I found at the time.

That seems to be a standard problem. It happened on my M4 as well. Its just a horribly designed charger. It seems to work ok for some, but many have had this problem. I stopped using it long ago.

Only times I've heard noise from there is when I have the cover not extended.

I do hear creaking from the same area on the right, but it only happens when a passenger is sitting in the back on the left hand side. No passenger, no creak. I thought it was the rear seat frame, but now thinking it’s in that area you pictured.

Not too much of an issue for me as I don’t have passengers in the back much.

Stones keep getting caught in my front driver side wheel

Hi there.
I was going to post this on the site but because I am new I can't until I join in a few chats. So please be gentle with me.
I have a BMW X3 69 plate and I have a gravel driveway.
I have asked the dealer about this issue and got fobbed off.
Does anyone else have stones get caught in there wheel on a regular basis. I am fed up with having to take the wheel off and getting the things out or hoping it will come out on its own and not damage anything.

any advice would be great. thanks
Never had a problem with other cars on the drive.

I don't see anything particular about this wheel design that would make this different from others. Are stones getting caught in the brake caliper if you are needing to remove the wheel to retrieve them? Is this more rear wheel vs. front or just random? Can't help but think this is some type of coincidence unless this particular tire tread design is picking up the stones and tossing them about the wheel opening. I'm assuming you have tried driving very slowly over the gravel. Anyone else have any ideas?

They seem to get caught in the back plate and score the discs.. Sorry not too car savvy with jargon.
I have been told they will wear down and release but Im scared of damage.
Cost of replacing the discs on these. wow.
I have had to take the wheel off 4 times in 5 months then have to re torque them.(well check them)
I can't keep doing that. Oh yes I crawl off the drive.

Anyone know how to turn off the car responding to the word "ALEXA"? I want it to listen for "Hey BMW" and "Hey Siri", but the Alexa keyword is WAY too intrusive. It triggers a lot. I thought that having Amazon Alexa integration would be cool, but I regret enabling it now. I think I can turn off all 3rd party keywords, but I really just want the Alexa crap gone from the car.

I have gravel on my drive and never had a problem with this, on my X4, former X3 or 3 series cars.

My gravel is quite large (see pics in this post... https://www.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...hp?p=30455551) so wonder if it's not so much the wheel, but smaller gravel size that's the issue?

Hmmm, the only other things I can think is how loose the gravel is - mine is, as you can see, quite compacted now (worn bare in places, really must top it up as it's a little unsightly) but still loose enough to "crunch" as you walk over it, so not a solid mass.
