Have an X3 and an X1 - the X1 got rear ended today

My girlfriend was driving our 2018 X1 with our dog in the back and someone rear ended her today. No injuries to our dog or my girlfriend but quite a bit of damage. Any guess on what this will cost to repair, the other driver received a ticket and he has insurance so I assume everything will be covered. Would you guess over or under $10,000? And how long will it be in the shop?

$8,800. It will be in the shop for one week.

Hot or Cold? Or not ready to spill yet? :-)

Sorry for your pain BTW.

Agreed.

This is also a good kind of hit to receive. No major components - engine or suspension. Likely they will replace rear door. It sucks to ever have your car damaged in an accident, but one of the better kind of accidents to have.

when my wife had her x1 with similar damage, it was slightly over $10k.

Ouch, sorry on what happened.
Glad that your dog and girlfriend are ok.

Based on the pictures, most likely the trunk latch mechanism and the spare tire compartment got pushed inward.
It may cost you more than $10k since they will need to cut and weld to fix that.

Crap, glad everyone ok.. No front damage? Two years ago, I was rear ended and was pushed into the car in front of me.

I haven't take it in yet, I will try to get into BMW on Thursday. I'll let you know how close you were on your guesstimate.

Glad for no injuries....sheetmetal can be replaced. It might not have gone as well, depending on the speed of the other guy. In case you're not already using these...

Just got the final estimate back, first estimate was $6000 but they said it could increase once they start removing body parts and get a better view. The estimate has increased to $11,000 now that they have started the repair.

I guessed "No way that's less than $10k". So, pretty close. I would say that we should play this game more often, but that would not be good luck.

It would be interesting to see pics of damage and then hear the estimates and then post pics once the repairs are completed. I'll update the post once i get it back.

My buddys wife was driving a Porsche Macan and stomped on brake pedal hard -only to find VW Golf up her rear end. Car was written off because of length of time to get parts they were told. Damage was less than your vehicle. Im sure someone bought and fixed it and has low cost low mileage Porsche now.Women should be told to check rear mirror when applying powerful brakes lol.

Sorry this happened. Beautiful vehicle.

Side note in Colorado on an 18 mile stretch of I-25 there were 1502 car accidents last year - 66 2/3% of which were rear-enders. State patrol said causes: speed and following too closely.
