Recommendation or experience with trunk/hatch mount bike rack (not hitch mount)
Hello, Has anyone used a hatch/trunk mount bike carrier similar to these? If so, did they work well, did they scratch or damage any part of the X3? Which carrier did you use? I do not have a trailer hitch so that is not an option. I would like to avoid roof mount as well.

I searched a lot of sources on these and almost everbody is saying hatch or trunk rack is gonna scratch somewhere in the back eventually. Even the rack itself is fine, the bike mounted with a free front wheel will hit the bumper all the time.
I am in the same situation. No hitch. Roof lloks like a lot of hassle. And both will require spending 700+ on the hardware. I am thinking of putting two bikes inside the trunk with backseats folded. But not really sure the space is enough. |

Have a look at the Thule Raceway, I have the 2 bike version and it’s by far the best and most secure rear bike carrier you can get.
Need to check with the compatibility as it couldn’t be used on my X1 and the same on the X3, something to do with the plastic roof spoiler unable to take load, plus when on the auto boot motors hate the additional weight. |

I used to use an internal bike rack in our old Audi Q3. Saris do one but several other companies do too. The Audi roofline wasn’t that tall so I needed to lower the seat post (as well as taking the front wheel off but the extra height of the X3 might mean that’s not necessary. Just google “internal bike rack” for options
https://www.wigglestatic.com/product...=430&h=430&a=7 You can get a version that expands out to fit the width of the car (Saris so one called the Kool rack - I had a cheaper version!) Last edited by IanForbet; 01-21-2020 at 11:01 AM.. Reason: Additional info |
