Does the passenger side view mirror "auto dimm" too... ?

Before I start going crazy can one of you confirm that the "auto dimming" feature on the side passenger side (of our LHD drive cars here in the US) doesn't actually work. And that I'm not the only person with this.

I popped both of the side view mirrors out recently for some ceramic coating work & noticed the right side / passenger side has one less connector on it. And when I back my garage queen out of the garage I always notice the rear view mirror and the driver's side (side view mirror) are the only ones with this feature.

Simply want to double check with you all to make sure!

If it is like the UK then only the driver's side mirror dims. Guess it is a cost cutting measure.
Service adviser once told me it was so you could still see the kerb even with dimmed mirrors, I did suggest he was talking rubbish.

Only driver side.
BMW cut cost on this since 2015/2016.
My 2014 F15 X5 was equipped on both side.
But not on my 2017 G30 540 and all other BMW since then.

It's a penny pinching move. BMW just keeps devaluing the brand. Even my Grand Cherokee had both outside mirrors that dimmed at night. And Jeep isn't a luxury brand.

i can't confirm but I will look at my passenger mirror when I go down to the garage next. However, my sticker says, "Auto-dimming interior and exterior mirrors."

You'll note that it doesn't say Auto-dimming driver's exterior mirror."

Thank you fellas. I wish both side view mirrors had this need auto dimming feature. Love to have things consistent on both sides.

I wonder if there is a way we can retrofit this. Imagine having a raised truck behind you and one side is dimmed and the other is not. Hahaha

I agree. I certainly understand people with dark tinted windows not wanting to curb their wheels against the curb when parking at night. But sheesh... how difficult would it have been for BMW in include this... ? Pennies on the dollar I'm assuming.

Doubt you could easily. As you'd need 2 wires going to the right side mirror from what I assume is the BDC control unit. Not to mention figuring out where to wire it to, if there's no market where both side mirrors have dimming option, then I'm not sure exactly where you'd pin to the BDC for proper signal.

I guarantee the right passenger side exterior mirror is NOT auto dimming.

I am a bit sceptical that even the driver side mirror dims, as I had a truck behind me yesterday and only the rear mirror did dim its lights. I also don't recal this having been an option on the MY2021 and I went fully-loaded with mine.

I can say without doubt that my 2020 X4M, Canadian spec has BOTH exterior mirrors automatically dim. Its actually quite noticeable as my wife's GLC only dims the driver-side exterior mirror and it's highly irritating when I drive her car on family trips at night.

From the comments, sounds like maybe only Canadian spec cars have both mirrors with auto dim standard?

Shine a flashlight in your interior rear view and see what happens... should be pretty easy to see if one or both exterior mirrors get dark.
