New Start Button

Does anyone know where I can get a new start button, just the cover? The one in the car now is badly warn and I've now ordered three that don't fit. The most recent one should have fit but the text was printed in the wrong direction.

I have a 2011 X3 35i without the auto stop start feature.

Thanks, yeah I've been looking on Amazon quite a bit. I've tried that style and the one in the picture. Still trying to find one that works.

Have you tried getting the actual part number from RealOEM.com based on your VIN and then googling who sells it. Or does BMW not sell just the button cover?

I haven't looked up the OEM number but from all the part websites I've been on, it doesn't appear BMW sells the button/cover only.

I think I might try a razor saw to cut the top part of the button off and then re-clock the face to the proper position using some epoxy. If you have several that don't work that should give you some practice stock. Good luck.

I'm really curious how that button degraded so much? How many miles are on the car?

Haha thanks for the tip! I just picked it up, believe it was owned by two older individuals previously.

I replaced my worn OEM one with a red one from ebay, cost about $6.

Can anyone recommend a replacement for a 2012 28i without auto stop/start? Seems most on eBay/Amazon, etc. are tailored to accommodate the auto feature.

I can confirm SmallDave experience: Bmw sell the whole unit only.

There are 2 buttons in Amazon or ebay in Red, Black, Blue and Silver colour.
One has 2 pins inside. The other one is exact fit, but the letters are perpendicular.

The only cheap solution is to use the original button base and replacement top part and dremel or grind them until the parts lineup properly and then glue them together. (to make one button from two)

And one more thing, don't believe you can remove the button using that provided black sticky play-dough. The whole vent part needs to come out.
