Mate, I deal with Adam from ddcoding. Look him up. He has been doing this for 4 years and has no issues. I have a code from him, so if anything gets wiped I have my code and he will reinstall. He does full software updates daily

Would just use who I used to install CarPlay to do FSC restore or whatever. I personally wouldn’t just buy off eBay or some random remote site

I don't have the wifi antenna, so Carplay isn't available direct from BMW at all.

Yes if you code it, but if you don't have the antenna then BMW don't offer you carplay On the connected drive store

Have got a quote back from my dealer for the two parts mentioned.
I have gone back asking them to confirm which will fit my VIN, and whether they would fit and cost.

Me too! As much as I would love to retrofit CarPlay, I think this is beyond my level of competence. Good luck to those who try.

So they have come back confirming that M40i (My VIN) would need the 647 (part no: 61118798647) one, so £15 for the part, but checking now if service will fit and at what cost...fingers crossed here.

Assuming they can, and not ridiculous cost bargain for OEM part

Well that was scary!

Tried installing Carplay last night using enet method bought from an eBay seller and it failed half way through and my idrive screen got stuck on this:



Apparently it was because the wifi was too weak. It was too late for the seller to respond to me so I drove round today with no nav, music, parking cameras or sensors, speed limit display or any other idrive functions!

Fortunately Simon from Bavarian Coding came to the rescue this evening, simply cehecking FSC status with e-sys (connect, go to comfort mode, fsc, check fsc status) brought the idrive back to life!

I’ve now moved my router right next to my car and will retry coding Carplay tomorrow!

Scary indeed mate! I avoided the eBay ones personally going to Adam DDcoding who seriously knows his stuff and is doing plenty CarPlay activations and software updates across the BMW range.
