I just fitted the £10 aftermarket antenna and it works great, took my phone about 5 metres away from the car and Spotify continued playing over Carplay!

Only about 20 minutes, a fair bit of that was spent deciding where to put the antenna.

This is something I want to know to.

Previously coded CarPlay myself in my f30, but happy to have the official version if possible. About to take delivery of one, and I don’t think it has CarPlay prep, but I do have a WiFi antenna from my old car

Since March 2019 I am the owner of a BMW X3 40d and the dealer (BMW Parklane in London) did messed-up the factory ordering of CarPlay. At some point after ordering the car I decided that I wanted to add CarPlay to my order. I contacted Parklane and the told me that there is no need to change the order, I could get CarPlay in the ConnectedDrive Store. I had to add the new car to my account and tried to add the CarPlay. I did not work... later I learned that the reason was the fact that I didn't had the advanced Bluetoothwhich included the antenna.
When I got back to Parklane a week later they told me I couldn't change my order anymore because the car was in production! Great!

So now I am looking already for a few months to code CarPlay. A good German coding company scared me because they told me not to code BMW's X3 G01 anymore after they had some severe problems with the iDrive system.
No I read here for the first time that somebody actually managed to get the CarPlay of his G01 enabled: "teaston". He used an eBay offer and a non-OEM antenna.

My question is are there more success stories around? Which coding company did you use and which antenna? OEM or immitation?
How simple/complicated was the installation of the antenna?

No, the connected drive store goes by your car's original factory spec, so no wifi antenna from factory means CarPlay will never be available to you officially, unless you find a way to buy the genuine FSC codes (which would be massively expensive!)

I did not order wireless charging, but I do have the premium and executive package.

Site builder says premium package comes with carplay for one year. It also says wireless charging adds "WiFi hotspot" with 3 month trial. I do not have wireless charging.

Which antennas do I have?

There is no enhanced bt antenna, it just uses the normal bt antenna. Wifi antenna just plugs into the rear of the head unit.

Thanks for clearing up the nomenclature. I am aware of the install location, in fact, I was minutes away from buying a WiFi antenna to install when this thread made me reconsider if I am in fact missing the wifi antenna. I assumed I didn't have it because I did not buy the wireless charging with WiFi hotspot option, but previous comments are making me hope that by having the premium package which includes car play, I in fact DO have the wifi antenna already. Would love to know!

If car is equipped with 6NW or 6WD it will have Antenna for 10000%.
6NW - Telephony with wireless charging
6WD - WLAN Hotspot

For 90% of cars, CarPlay works just fine without WiFi Antenna.
I always recommend trying before installing Antenna.

Also from my experience I have noticed that iPhone 7 or 8 works better than X or Xs when it comes to cars without Antenna
