I had mine replaced 9/2022 by Safelite and I requested for it to be OEM. Its going to come with a bracket for the camera and its one part #. Safelite has really got warranty and I am having mine now checked because something happened to that bracket and now getting all kind of errors because it can't calibrate. Dealer denied the claim because they didn't install the windshield. I would recommend go to dealer and use your insurance. Do a search and this is happening to others. The bracket maybe failing causing this.

The dealer just replaced mine yesterday. Or I should say the shop they outsourced to replaced it.
Cost was $1650 as promised, $400 for install and the remainder was glass and the seals. Interestingly, there is no black seal across the top of the windshield where it meets the roof anymore. I recall it being there previously because it was a little loose. Anyways, good as new once again. |

Have the dealer do it. If the drivers assist cameras get screwed up, the dealer will blame Safelite and it’ll be on you to try to get someone to fix it. Trust me.

My 2020 x3 windshield cracked on jan4- almost identical location and looks similar in shape and size. I heard a loud pop and then noticed this- i could swear i didn't really see a rock flying over/ hitting it. This 2020 x3 is my 4th x3- I have heard the same kind of loud pops many times coming from the windshield on previous x3s as well as this one but never had a corresponding crack before. I have also seen rocks flying and hitting the glass and seen corresponding chips or cracks I am wondering if they use some defective glass or technology that causes these pops / cracks at low temperatures once cabin heats up. The bmw cabin heats up so quick and this is so useful in winter- I have a $1000 deductible. My out of pocket: Safelite quote for oem is 1781, dealership 2489. Planning to go with safelite. |

Wow that’s pricey! My cost from dealer was $1650 but I don’t have heads up display or anything.

Just had mine replaced. Multiple quarter size chips in a few weeks. Dealer redirected me to a 3rd party autoglass company & said they outsource everything to them anyway. Went through my insurance, no hassle, and they replaced it at my work. Recalibrated and doing good (tested the lane-assist and everything on the way home).
Does anyone know of a decent protection film for the windshield, similar to PPF? I had numerous nicks in the windshield from smaller rocks that were too petite to crack the glass yet robust enough to put a nick in the outer layer. Prior to replacement my windshield looked like van gogh's Starry Night from all the sandblasting and small nicks... I'm assuming xpel is a bad idea b/c any variation in thickness form the application will be noticeable when driving. |
