Recently bought a 2020 M40i with idrive 7. I have some questions...

1. Remote 3D view is not working. There is no option in the app or in IDrive. The dealer updated the software, but it’s still not working.

2. Spotify app is missing. Apparently, it should be available but I’ve had no luck getting it to show up. I’ve tried updating the apps and restarting the system.

Are these features working for anyone with iDrive 7? Thanks.

Regarding Remote 3D view, most of us got it to work with the November 2019 iDrive update, however you need to have spec'd either the Parking Assistance Package or the Executive Package.

I don't use Spotify. It's not part of the BMW apps, but I believe you can access it via CarPlay if you have the app installed on your iPhone.

I use Apple CarPlay, and Spotify is available because it is installed on my iPhone. I don't know if any way to get it on the car without CarPlay.

If you are using CarPlay, go into iPhone settings > General > CarPlay > [your car]. There are some customizable options in there that might be your issue.

Hello, I have the same issue with spotify app. and Idrive 7, I can't see the icon of the application. The music is only played through bluetooth, but no album information is displayed.

OP, did you buy the car off the lot? If so, it's possible that the software needs to be updated.

Remote 3D view and the built-in Spotify app work as expected on my Jan 2020 build. Also note that you need a Spotify premium acct for it to function, but I would guess the app would still show up.

You don't need a premium acc of Spotify. Is is also accessible without CarPlay. It is also available if you have Android. Appearance is a little problematic, or at least that is the case with ID6. Just wanted to clear things up.

Yeah, I took it to the dealer a few ago and they supposedly updated the software. But it's still not working.

Do you have the WiFi hotspot?

I definitely have the executive package. Yeah, I've been using CarPlay, but I wanted to try the built in app.

Hey jcl, check your privacy settings and make sure everything is turned on. If the privacy settings are correct, Remote 3D view should work. If not, you may want to ask the dealer specifically whether your iDrive has the 11/19 update. I couldn't see the Remote 3D button in the app until I had that update done.

Regarding Spotify, why do you think there's a built-in app? Has it been stated somewhere?

jz, is Spotify shown in the BMW apps menu of iDrive, or is it an app on your iPhone that you are accessing via CarPlay?

@hinckley: jz is referring to build-in Spotify as referenced in the sentence before stating that you need Premium account, which I can see would make sense.

On Apple Car, it would work as normally on the iphone.

I have premium spotify account, id7 with connected package profesional and spotify icon does not appear in mine. I have just removed my galaxy s10 bluetooth connection and added again. All permisions accepted too. Tested with usb cable and no results. Spotify running and car mode enabled. BMW Connected app running.

I highly doubt there is a built-in Spotify app. You have to have your phone connected to the car. You are basically using the one on your phone.

At least with the latest Idrive 7 the Spotify is an app in the car (accessed by the media button), and does not require your phone in any way to work. I don't know the answer to the OP's question, but it should be there.

There is absolutely a built-in Spotify app in iDrive 7. This is what I was referencing in my post above I'm which I stated a Spotify premium subscription is required to use the built-in app. It does not require a phone to be connected in order to function.

Dah! Now I understand. Sorry for my own confusion and lack of knowledge, but maybe I can help . . .

So jcl451, in the Media Sources Personalize submenu, are you saying that Spotify is not listed? fwiw, it is listed in my Personalize submenu, but I didn't have it checked so it doesn't show up in the main Media Sources menu. It must be checked in the submenu for it to appear in the main menu.

It doesn't appear anywhere. I probably have outdated software but I'm not sure how I can check.

Perform a restart of your head unit and update your BMW apps and services.

Hold the power button on the radio for 30 seconds. This will do a power down and restart of the idrive. Go to the connected drive screen and click left. Then click option button and click update apps and services. Let the vehicle go to sleep (lock it and leave for 15 mins). Log out of connected drive app and log back in. Recheck functionality of remote remote 3D View and Spotify.

Once I got the 11/19 update the remote view started working and Spotify showed up in my options. I don’t use Spotify, but it is there. I read somewhere that the new software update included the Spotify.
