Agreed. Newer (post 2000) quality rotors don't wear like the thin tired poor steal rotors from the 80's and 90's. Also.. Get good quality ceramic pads and save yourself a ton of time cleaning your wheels. I Plan to replace my pads with ceramic this month.. just for the clean aspect. BMW tends to use very dirty pads. Lastly; if you let it go too long; you may need to replace brake sensors. Small wear sensors that wear when brakes get too low. The are meant to wear and be replaced. I learned this late on my '08 and had to leave up on blocks for 3 days until new sensors arrived.

Yellowstuff are a pretty decent uprated road pad. Although not really suitable as a track pad even though they say they are, guys on the F30 forum have used them on track and say you maybe get half a lap extra compared to OEM pads before they fade.

BMW use dusty pads because they have very good initial bite even when very cold, and because the pads are less abrasive on the rotors, so the rotors last longer. Why did you leave the car up on blocks? Either ignore the warning message, or split open the old sensor cable and twist the two wires together! |

I've had good luck with Akebono ceramic pads. I have used them on my E53X5 and my F34 330i xdrive GT.

I’ve done my own brakes for years on my BMW’s... I’m currently on my second set of pads on my X6M...and will replace the lot when those pads are worn.
I used after market pads for the second set... in this case a free set of Bosch. Last brake job I did was an F25 were the OEM rotors disintegrated at the two year point. Replaced with Brembo and no problems since. I would never discard perfectly good rotors and don’t bother with turning them. And have never had problems... |

"Sorry for your application we do not make pads currently. Front is a D1867 shape. This shape is too wide for us to manufacture in our tooling. Rear is a D1850 shape. This is on our list, but will not get it done this year." |

I don't know if they make them for this car, but on my 228iMSport, I installed Hawk HPS5.0, and they had excellent performance and way less dust than the BMW pads. Highly recommend if they make for this car. Looks like Tirerack has a listing for the rear brakes but can't find front brakes so probably have to call.
