X3 3.5i F25 Oil analysis
Hey all, the Blackstone labs came in from my last oil change (5000 mile interval) and I'm a little surprised the Pennzoil Euro Platinum 5W-40(LL-01) came in at a lower viscosity than the BMW 0w-30 branded oil from the dealer, which came in within its respective spec on a previous oil analysis(viscosity range not shown). Of the two labs included below, the yellow is BMW 0W-30 and the red is Pennzoil 5W-40. Has any one seen lower viscosity with the Pennzoil product? As far as I'm concerned, this 5W-40 performed slightly worse than the bmw branded, thinner oil. Im inclined to switch to Fauchs in the future and try that.

No experience running Pennzoil, but FYI....my report after 7K miles - viscosity was well within spec - 6 cyl. motor running Castrol Euro Blend 0W40.

You may get more feedback from the crowd over at bob is the oil guy dot com, or BITOG for short.
There's a dedicated UOA subforum where a few tribologists frequently opine on lubes and what all the numbers mean. Here's a link: https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/fo...is-gasoline.3/
