Our X3 is in BMW Heaven
Last Saturday an on coming driver drifted into our lane and hit us head-on.
My wife and I are beat up but we are still here. When I saw him coming I got on the brakes. I could not go right as there was a car there and I would have put them into parked cars. So I tried to come to a stop, hoping the other driver would do the same. He did not. He did not even hit the brakes. The impact was strong enough to turn us 90 degrees. All the Air Bags popped. But the cabin stayed intact with no deforming. All the doors open and close. As I was being loaded into the ambulance, the Deputy told me that the other driver was reaching into a box on the passenger floor for a donut. He did not see us until the just before impact. My wife told me today that we must get another BMW, an X3 or X4. As I am a very underpaid IT Pro. we always buy pre-owned. As soon as this is all settled, I'll get another one. P.S. I hope you never find out but, Air Bags smell really bad.

Omg, so sorry to hear of this. First of all, glad that you and your spouse are okay. Sounded like it could have been a lot worse... Over a box of donuts... Jeez, you can let make this up. Hope you both are fully recovered soon.

BEST thing is . . . . your both still around ! sore but around !
All the stuff popped and worked ! Been there and done that, some years back. Distracted driver (cell phone) blew a stop sign, speeding, t boned me from mid drivers door on back . . . . . Totaled ! I had no warning, but was wondering why the car was suddenly spinning for what seem like a few minutes ! Went to the hospital got patched up and released 6hrs later. And yeah, heavy plastic smell, and plenty of dust floating around. Replacing a vehicle . . . . forced . . . . is a pain in azs ! Hope you recover every penny from the experience " + " !!!!!!

Well the most important thing is that your both ok. Ive had a vehicle destroyed by another driver and it sucks being forced to replace something you like, but the vehicle did its job and kept you safe. Hope you both feel better quick.

Thanks for sharing and pleased that you are both doing well.
Yes do it, get another X3. I had 3 now and also currently have x6. Love the x6 more as bigger more solid. Love the Solidness of the Germans, I get all the safety stuff. Again size matters. Also SUV higher up, perhaps less impact if TBoned. Wishing you and your wife speedy recovery and best health in 2018. Cheers! |

So glad you and your wife are okay. Please don't sign anything saying you are okay and don't settle on damages. If there is any chance you are hurt in any way, think about getting a good attorney who specializes in auto accidents who will work on contingency.
In my case, the police report stated it was the other guy's fault so it was a slam dunk case for my attorney. If there is a police report saying its the other guy's fault, you can get an attorney to to it for a 25% fee instead of the "standard" 33%. If you know for sure you are not hurt and its just a matter of getting compensated for your car and expenses then maybe an attorney is not necessary. Good luck. |

Glad you're okay, OP.
2 vehicles NOT to get...Infiniti G35 sedan and the 2000 yr PT Cruiser. Saw a head-on with them..both cars occupants had to be taken away in an ambulance...broken legs/back..etc. Residential speeds (~40mph). No thanks. I'll keep my German vehicles thank you very much...

Back in 2012, my wife had an '05 E83 X3 & I had a '09 535i Xdrive. Anyway, somebody crossed the center line and hit her head on at 35mph. She walked away with a broken nail & the other guy (Mitsubishi 3000GT) was in the hospital for two weeks with head injuries. The firefighters at the scene washing the gasoline form the road told me "you obviously get what you pay for". My wife told me as soon as she got in my car at the scene that she wanted another X3 because she felt so safe in it. We replaced that E83 with an '07 and then just this year replaced the '07 with an F25 Xdrive 35i. BMW's have always been safe cars and you are very fortunate to have not been in a lesser vehicle.
