CarMax Offer: 2018 X3 M40i w/4500miles
Take a guess................
$46k Just in case anyone is shopping pre-owned and wants a data point. I've gotten anywhere from $48k-$54k from BMW dealers...but that's just a shell game with moving monies on the new acquisition.

$65720, but that's not what I paid
However having said that, I would never accept $46k

That's painful! I leased for 2 years, expecting to get into a 2020 X3M comp.

I see this Thread taking a turn real quick....Haha!
No need for me to unload the M40i, just considering some options.

At the very worst I would do Swapalease or similar. All I'd lose is my lease acquisition fee since I always do $0 down. Maybe offer some incentive if I was real desperate. Besides I make sure my emergency fund can cover the entire lease terms and other necessary expenses before making the commitment. Everyone should be doing that regardless of lease/buy...right? 80 month loans are the all the rage nowadays tho.

But I don't think pheerIx was questioning my situation, but rather responding to SamS. It seems those two are having a discussion about the pros/cons of leasing vs financing which I sort of figured this Thread would turn into.

CarMax offered me $16500 on an MY2012 F30 335i I sold the week after for $21000. That's about 22% less than I sold it for.

Car Max isn’t the best way to go. Mid 50’s I think would be a fair price.

We sold our older cars to CarMax just because it was easy and the extra money we could make on our own probably wasn't worth our time.
Now we're looking to get an X3, and feel like we should sell our 2017 A4. It's a harsh reality now - the difference between selling to a dealer and selling privately is probably $5K-7K, but I have no idea how people sell their cars privately anymore. Craigslist doesn't seem to be the way. Unless my filters were screwed up, there haven't been any sold on eBay to get a gauge for how much they're going on there. Cars.com, etc. doesn't seem like a place where I can really differentiate with the fact that it has a transferrable CPO warranty if I sell it privately. Anyone have any tips for finding someone to buy their relatively new used car? |

I’ve always had success listing my trucks and cars in the Autotrader. Beware of the scammers though; they always show up in the first few days or week of a new listing. Good luck on the sale.

CarMax is horrible : you will probably have better luck trading it in and with the tax saving I see you can make at least 3 or 4 grand better than this

Carvana, though, came within a few hundred of the trade-in net. They contacted me via one of my private sale ads - similar to a number of "selling services" that claimed "demand in the area for vehicles like yours" - but Carvana buys from you directly and will pick the car up at your house (depending on region.) |
